Orphan Runaway

Chapter Two

After Masy was done explaining Kady ran her fingers through her hair. "And your sure this will work?" She inquired nervously.

Masy looked up from the notebook that they wrote their plans in. "Positive." She insisted.

Kady nodded and looked at her two friends. "You guys are coming with me right?" She begged. Masy and Brenden smiled.

"Only if you want us too." They answered. With those words Kady relaxed. She always felt better when she had her friends with her.

Masy clapped her hands together quietly. "Brenden are you ready for your part of the plan?" She asked.

They were in Masy's room getting prepared to put their plan in action. Everyone else was asleep as it was 1:45 in the morning.

Brenden nervously ran his hands through his hair. "I think so." He gulped, unsure of himself. "Can you go over it one more time?" He begged. Masy sighed. This was the fifth time we have had to go over it.

"You will walk out the door and find Lady Grenle on her nightly shift. You will tell us where she is so we don't run it to her." She explained like she was explaining something to a two year old.

Brenden nodded and he gripped his Walkie-Talkie so hard his knuckles turned white.

Masy turned towards Kady and handed her the other Walkie-Talkie. Kady felt the cold metal in her grip and it made her shiver. They were actually going to do this. They were actually going to run away.

Masy motioned for Brenden to go and he nervously walked out the door. Walkie-Talkie in hand.

As they waited for a report from Brenden, Masy and Kady didn't really say much. They were both to enclosed in their own thoughts.

Eventually Kady dozed off leaving Masy to litsen for Brenden's report.

"Hello my sweet child." A young woman said peering down at a small child. Kady stood behind the infant.

The baby started to wail. "Shhh young one." The woman said gently rocking the baby.

The woman looked extremely familiar but Kady couldn't place a finger on where she has seen her.

The woman started screaming pulling Kady out of her thoughts. A man was standing in the empty door way.

Kady was pretty sure there was a door there just one moment ago.

The man pulled out a gun and aimed it at the woman. Kady wanted to do something. To say something to help the poor woman. But she couldn't move.

The woman cried out. "Please, please don't take her!" The man sneered and pulled trigger. The woman fell limp dropping the baby back in her cradle.

The man stalked over to the baby's cradle and picked her up. Another gun shot sounded and the man fell limp. The baby fell out of his grasp and landed on her head.

A boy around the age of fourteen came in gun in his shaking hand. His blonde hair was matted with sweat. He knitted his eyebrows together as he examined the baby.

The boy looked up. Staring at Kady. "Kady, Kady... KADY!"

"...KADY!"

Kady woke up with Masy shaking her awake. "Kady, Kady, c'mon Kady! Get up!"

Kady sat up rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Masy grabbed her hand and shoved her out the door. She stopped to grab two full to the brim backpacks before following Kady out the door.

I took Kady a moment to remember what they were doing. Running away.

They snuck outside and headed towards the woods. They reached and old cottage in the middle of the woods and looked around. No sign of Brenden. Masy sat on the edge of the path leading towards the cottage.

Kady ran her hands through her hair. Her mind was reeling with the thoughts of her dream. Who was the lady? Who was the man? Who was the boy and the baby?

"Kady what are you thinking about?" Masy asked. Kady turned around confused. "What do you mean?"

Masy rolled her eyes. "I know you Kad, I know when you're worried about something." Kady tried to give her a reassuring smile.

Masy huffed and turned away. "Fine, okay. I get it you don't wanna tell your best friend."

Kady frowned. She couldn't tell Masy when she didn't know what happened herself!

All of a sudden Kady heard leaves crunch behind her. Her heart started beating faster. She knew that it was just Brenden but the paranoid part of her mind would not give up.

What if Lady Grenle found us. What if it's a rapist or a murderer?

Nope. It was Brenden. Kady let out a breath of relief that she did not know she was holding.

Brenden eyed us. "So what do we do now?" He questioned. We glanced at each other. None of us really thought we would make it this far, much less plan this far!

Masy was the first to come up with an idea. "Maybe we could stop at a nearby village-"

"Why would anyone build a village in the middle of the woods?" Brenden interrupted.

"I don't know but do you have a better idea Mr. I know everything!" Masy snapped.

Brenden glared at her but said nothing. Kady just watched them from a distance. She knew better than to get involved while her friends were fighting.

"I thought not." Masy grumbled calming down a bit. Brenden walked silently next to Kady. They were keeping their distance from Masy while she calmed down.

Kady's thoughts went back to her dream. She was dying to know who the woman with the baby and the two guys were. The woman looked so familiar but Kady couldn't place a finger on who she was.

"Masy where the hell are we going?" Brenden finally burst out. Kady focused her attention back towards her friends.

Masy turned to give him the death stare. "You'll see when we get there." She stated.

Brenden gave Kady a look the said can you believe her? Kady just shrugged and followed Masy.

She ran to catch up with Masy. "Do you even know where you're going?" She asked her. Masy huffed and walked even faster. Kady left her alone not wanting to make her madder.

She felt a warm hand wrap around her waist. "She'll calm down eventually." Brenden said. Kady smiled. He always knew when she was upset and that's what she loved about him. Kady froze. Did she just say love?

"What's wrong Kad?" Brenden asked. Kady shook her head and kept walking. Brenden stopped her by wrapping his arm around her waist.

Kady wriggled out of his grasp and ran. This isn't right! She thought. He has a girlfriend.

Kady ran so fast that she bumped into Masy who put a finger to her lips shushing her. Something was wrong.

Then she heard it... Footsteps

Sorry that this was so short... I just thought this was a good place to stop the chapter.
