Billy was extremely passionate about the reef, and saving the reef and if you wanted to talk to someone who hated the government, she was the girl. She would get so angry with them, that she would attempt to write them letters, and snap the pen while she was doing so. She always made sure she wore ink proof clothes and used an old unwanted pen because if she didn't, she knew it wouldn't end well. She was so passionate, that one night, she stayed up until it was time to start her lessons the next day, to make a fundraiser to raise awareness about the all of the reefs and islands that made up the Great Barrier Reef. She put posters and flyers and jars for money all over the island, including her brother's school. She wrote to the prime minister and told him about the money she had raised, and if he didn't do anything she would go to the bank and get them converted to notes, blend up the notes, and feed them to Roofus and use the rest of the money to buy stomach medicine for Roofus. You could tell she wrote a very persuasive letter because the prime minister himself wrote her back one asking her what she wanted to do. She told him a long list of things that she wanted to do even though she knew some of them were impossible. She was so determined to do something about it that she didn't care what it was. They wrote letters back and forth until he decided to make his way up to Queensland to see her. She told him about her inspiration which was her father. He had been a marine biologist for 30 years and that's how he met her mother. They fell in love straight away and decided to get married. Then they had Daniel and 5 years later, they had Billy. Billy's parents had always thought they had passed on their wisdom, knowledge and love of the ocean to Billy and Daniel, especially Billy. She might as well have been a fish. The prime minister asked about her dad, and it finally came to the question, "where is he now?" Billy hesitated for a minute and then said "he was lost out at sea." She felt a stab of guilt, the kind you get when you lie. It was just too hard to say what actually happened.
Once they had finished talking he decided to go home and tell the Scientists Of Australia Association about Billy. About a month later, Billy got an email saying:
To Miss Billy Mason,
We have received information about you and your project. You have inspired us to create an antidote to the bleaching and to bring the immune system of the coral up. We thank you for all your dedication to the project and we would love it if you could help us.
From the team at S.O.A.A
Billy was so excited when she got the email that she passed out in her breakfast. She fed that bit of toast to Roofus, washed her face and got some more breakfast. Billy was homeschooled so she spent all day researching the coral bleaching. She was homeschooled because she had ADHD and found it really hard to concentrate at school and that's what she loved about the coral, there were no words to interfere with her head. The only reason she could write letters and research was because she loved the coral so much. It was fascinating to her. All the colours and marine life that it sheltered. Sometimes she wished she was a fish so that she could live there. If she was a fish, her dad and brother wouldn't have died. Only small sharks can get in there and they are harmless. She started to cry again. Why her? What did she do to deserve this? She had been faithful to god for her whole life. She didn't understand this, she didn't understand god. Why did he do this to her? She started praying, she yelled out to god, "Why me? Why me lord? Why?"
