Nicki
I stormed into my apartment and slammed the door behind me. I stomped over to the couch and plopped down. I massaged my temples and sighed. I cannot believe I just got fired from my job as a waitress at Red Lobster. I don't even remember what I did. Everything that happened last night is kinda hazy. I just remember hanging out in the kitchen chugging Vodka by the bottle. I must've done something really crazy while I was drunk to get fired.
My head throbbed. I woke up with a really bad headache. Hangovers suck. I've had too many to count. I got up off the couch and walked over to the medicine cabinet and took two Advils. Then I marched my ass right back over to the couch and turned on the TV.
SB probably wasn't gonna get home until 2:00 in the morning, as usual. He always claims he has "errands" to run after he gets off work, but really, he goes to the nightclub and fools around with other hoes. When he does get home, though, he's always drunk. I always try to confront him about him cheating on me but he denies everything. As of now, I don't even care anymore. I don't even know why I stay with him. I guess it's kinda complicated. I wanna leave, but at the same time, I don't wanna. I just can't bring myself to do it.
My iPhone vibrates. I look at it. It's a text message from my best guyfriend, Drake.
Drake - Hey Nic, what's good?
I sigh. I really wasn't in the mood to talk to ANYONE, but for Drake, I'll make an exception.
Me - Nothing really.
He responds instantly.
Drake - Whoa, what happened?
Me - I just got fired from my job at Red Lobster. SB's gonna kill me.
Drake - Shit, Nicki. Do you want me to come over there and keep you company?
Me - Yea, I guess so.
Drake - I'll be there in five minutes.
I smiled to myself. Drake always had my back no matter what. I remember one time during college (before I dropped out) I was out sick and we were texting each other during his class. I said I felt like some Panera Bread, and he left in the middle of his lecture to bring me some broccoli and cheese soup.
Just then, I heard a knock at the door. Drake was here. "It's open!" I call, and he lets himself in.
"Hey Nika, how's it going?" He sits himself right by me on the couch.
"Aubrey, you already know how it's going," I say with attitude.
"Ooh, fiesty today huh?"
"Drake, I'm not in the mood to joke."
"Oh, come on, Nic," he says with a playful shove. "Loosen up a bit."
I scoffed. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, nigga. You want me to loosen up when I literally JUST lost my fuckin' job? Drake, that was where most of SB's and my money came from. That's what we payed rent with!"
"Doesn't yo man have a job?" Drake asked.
"Yeah, but he barely gets paid. And besides, he uses all that money to buy liquor and beer and wine and shit."
" ... If he doesn't bring in money, why do you stay? I mean, you don't even act like you guys love each other."
Nicki sighed. "I don't even know anymore Drake. My life is just falling apart, bit by fucking bit."
"No it's not, Nika."
"Oh yeah? My mom is dead, my dad is nowhere to be found, my brothers are God knows where, I have a drinking problem, I dropped out of fucking college, I just got fired from my waitressing job, I'm dependant, and to top it all off, I have a loser boyfriend who doesn't even love me anymore!"
"Nicki, I've known you for five years and I know you to be someone who gets off of her sexy ass and does stuff. You are not one of those other girls who sit around and feels sorry for themselves," he reasoned.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. He had a point.
"But hey, at least you don't have to deal with that bitch of a co-worker... What was her name? Oh yeah, Mandi."
I perked up instantly. Oh God, I hated Mandi, and she hated me too. Nevertheless, she acted like she didn't. But as soon as I turned my back to her, she'd go around, spreading rumors about me.
"Oh my God, Drake, you're right!" I exclaimed happily.
"Yeah, I know."
Just then, his phone buzzed. It was a text message. He unlocked his phone and read it.
"Oh shit, Nicki," he said as he stood up. "I gotta go, I promised my roommate that I'd study with him. We have finals tomorrow." He grabbed his keys and phone and headed out the door, but before he left, he said, "Hey Nicki, good luck with dealing with SB. When I get off for break, I'll come see you and we'll help you find a new job."
I smiled and wished him good luck on his finals, and he was off.
It was good to know that Drake could always make me feel better, no matter what the case was.
