She ran and ran until her legs were on fire and her face was streaked with tears. Her lungs were frozen but burning. She skidded to a halt on the grimy pavement and waited. She wanted to throw up but she couldn't, she had to focus. There. A slight pattering of feet on the rooftop to her right. She sprang and her feet connected with the wall. She rebounded off of it and landed on the roof of the opposite building. Where was he?
A shadow darted in her peripheral vision and she spun, just in time to see a small figure dart behind a chimney.
"Come out, come out whatever you are", she sang in her head. The figure stepped back in to view and grinned, showing a set of long, yellow pointed teeth. The moonlight reflected of the barrel of her gun and the shock only registered on the creatures face as the bullet found its mark. The thing stumbled and its knees buckled. It fell from the rooftop with a sickening thud. She jumped to the ground below and kicked the creature into a nearby dustbin.
"Well done, Caine", came a mans voice from the shadows.
"Mr Bleak", Caine addressed the man.
"Well played, Caine, very well played indeed..."
