Muted Roses Chapter 01

"I wanna remarry."

"What?" I was shocked, I didn't know what to say nor think.
He explained everything. From the day he and this lucky girl met to the day they realized their love for each other.

I couldn't think straight. I want to agree but one side of me doesn't, I just couldn't accept the fact that fathers gonna replace mom sometime soon but seeing how happy he was, I couldn't disappoint him.

"Ok then..."

It's been 2 weeks after that day, and during those 2 weeks, I spent it with my soon-to-be mother. Her name was Sooyoung. She has a daughter named Jessica and was the same age as I am, she let me spend some time with her too. She reminded me so much of my own mom. She was simple yet very attractive. She was kind, caring, helpful and strong. It was as if mom was still here when I'm with her and I was very happy that my dad chose someone like her.

But I was wrong.

Dads attention was always on me because of my depression. Sooyoung got pregnant and instead of spending time with her, dad spent time with me. Because of this, she changed. She started hating me.

It got worse when she gave birth to their daughter, Hyerin. She didn't want me near her and every time she sees dad with me, she would abuse me. She wouldn't let me eat with them because she wanted them to have time as a family so I would stay in my room pretending to be asleep and eat when they've gone to work.

To be honest, I didn't hate mom. She wanted Hyerin to have beautiful memories with her family and I understand that. But with dads attention always on me, that wouldn't happen. That's why sometimes I just avoid dad and stay in my room.

Jessica would come and try to talk to me when our parents weren't here and she would also let me spend time with Hyerin. I was very grateful for that.

But one day mom got home early and saw us playing with each other. She got mad. She dragged me to my room and started hitting me with a belt.

"I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM MY FAMILY!"

"AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE GRATEFUL? I ALLOWED YOU TO LIVE HERE EVEN WHEN YOU AREN'T A PART OF OUR FAMILY AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME?"

Jessica followed us to my room carrying Hyerim, quickly covering her eyes as the scene in front of them was terrifying. She put Hyerim down.

"Go back to your room, ok?" She whispered and Hyerim nodded. She continued to stand frozen, watching mom do this to me.

She continued hitting me but this time, harder. My back was bleeding from getting hit and I couldn't stop screaming as hot tears started streaming down my face.

Dad got home. He was holding a bottle of alcohol, running to my room as soon as he heard me screaming. He saw what mom did. Anger ran through his veins and before he knew what he was doing, he slammed the bottle across the wall, breaking it in half. He pulled mom away from me and quickly stabbed her.

"MOM!!!" Jessica shouted in hopes for dad to stop but he didn't, he stabbed her deeper, blood dripping from her lifeless body, to the floor. He realized what he did and took the knife out of moms stomach. She fell on the floor and Jesica ran to her.

It reminded me of my own mom. When she suddenly collapsed on the floor looking so pale and lifeless. I started crying, I didn't want anyone else to die. I fell on my knees.

"Why?" I asked dad. But he was too terrified of what he did and couldn't even talk. He whispered a faint sorry and ran to his room.

Jessica called an ambulance and went to the hospital with Hyerim. I followed right after. But when I got there, it was when the doctor announced her death.

"J-Jessica" I called out, stuttering. She turn arround, anger shown in her eyes as tears were falling nonstop.

"YOU!!!" She pointed at me. "THIS WAS ALL YOUR FAULT!" She shouted but was stopped by a nurse who reminded her to keep quiet.

"Get away from us. Do it now while I'm asking properly." She said, gritting her teeth. She turned away from me and walked towards the room where mom was and went inside. I slowly walked towards the same room and looked through the small gap of the opened door. There I saw moms dead body. A tear dropped from my eye as I walked away, letting my feet go where ever they wanted to.

Just then, my thoughts were disturbed as I suddenly bumped into something hard.

"아, 미안해요 (Ah, mianhaeyo: Oh, I'm sorry) I didn't see you."
