"Before you say anything, let me impress you with the awesome poem I wrote just for you." Gerald said the second I picked up the phone that night. It was the second Tuesday of school and the second week was going just as good as the first.
"Oh boy. Okay, go for it."
"You don't sound impressed yet; but that's okay, you will be."
"Sure." I said, obviously just humouring him.
"All right, here goes. Roses are red, Violet is you. This poem isn't romantic, but it sure is true!" "And..."
"And that's it. What do you think?" I honestly couldn't tell how serious he was about this poem, but knowing him, he did know how bad it was.
"It's about what I expected from you."
"Oh yeah, you think you can do any better?"
"In fact I do."
"Fine then, go for it."
"Roses are red, Violet's are blue. Violet is me, an idiot is you." I said with a smirk.
"Wow, thanks, Vi. That inspires my next one. Roses are red, Violet is mean. But darn if she isn't the prettiest girl that I've seen."
"Aww, aren't you sweet? Too bad I'm not."
"Give it another try, I'm sure you can manage."
"All right, I've got a good one. Roses are red, Violets are blue. Watch out for the umbrellas, who knows what they'll do." I was actually proud of that one, I still held our umbrella joke near and dear to my heart.
"Oh come on, I give you a legitimately sweet one and you give me that."
"Hey, I thought it was pretty good." I told him, feeling slightly offended.
"Well, I still think you can do better. Try again."
"Huh... fine. Roses are red, Gerald is dim. He may be an idiot, but I still love him."
"Aww, now that's a good poem." There was a comfortable moment of silence. "You know, I actually had a dream about you last night."
"Well, I am the girl of your dreams."
"Ha. Ha. Ha." He said sarcastically. "Seriously though, in it you were all lovey dovey all the time, you were practically all over me."
"Ugh." I gagged.
"Yeah, it was the worst nightmare I ever had." At that I burst out laughing.
"You like when I tease and taunt you?" I inquired in utter disbelief.
"Strangely enough, yeah."
"Well, no one ever said you weren't strange."
"Very funny. But honestly, couples that are practically sugar coated make my skin crawl. I'll keep my mean old Violet thank you very much."
"Aww, and I'll keep my stupid old Gerald."
"'Idiot', Vi. I'm an idiot." He probably said it like that on purpose, but I still couldn't contain my giggles.
"My favourite one, Gerald."

The next day at lunch I was eating a sandwich, minding my own business, when suddenly my eyes were covered by a pair of hands. "Guess who." I knew right away, just by the voice.
"Johnny!" I exclaimed, turning around and hugging him. "I've been looking for you."
"Sure you have. I bet you've been too busy making goo goo eyes at Gerald to even think about me." He remarked jokingly.
"I have not. Besides, why would I ever want to look at Gerald for more than a couple seconds?" I asked and we both laughed.
"Now that I can agree with."
"Wow, I love you guys." Gerald said sarcastically.
"No you don't. Not right now at least." I told him. Then I turned back to Johnny. "So, how has high school been treating you so far?"
"Better than middle school, that's for sure. It's like a blank slate, you know?" He replied.
"Yeah, I get that."
"How about you? Found your first case yet?"
"Sadly, no. Not that we haven't been looking."
"Then I highly recommend you check out that little wooded area out back of the school. I can't promise anything, but hey, it's worth a shot."
"Thanks, we might actually take that advice."

We did in fact end up taking that advice, the very next day even. As Gerald and I left the school I had my eyes glued on the woods. It actually looked fairly nice, lush green trees, fresh air, a nice little path; but looks can be deceiving. "Tree demons." Gerald blurted. "Treemons, even."
"Dumb. An idiot even." I mocked.
"Hey, it could happen and you know it all too well."
"Yeah, but... yeah."
"You hate admitting I'm right, don't you?" He inquired smugly.
"I really do."

As we entered the woods I actually felt more enchanted than creeped out. "I highly doubt we're going to find any treemons in here." I declared, taking in the gorgeous surroundings. The way the light hit the trees created the perfect amount of shade and sun at the same time.
"I agree. Next time, let's find a creepier woods to poke around in."
"Speaking of creepy woods, did you read about those disappearances that happened up in Needle Creek over the summer?" I inquired.
"I did, actually. Man I wish we had been up there during that little incident."
"Yeah, some interesting rumours surrounded that place."
"This one... not so much." He sighed. I nodded as I settled myself onto a nearby stump. "You know what this place is good for though?" He asked, a grin growing on his face.
"What?" He leaned towards me, immediately answering my question with a kiss. He may have been an idiot, but sometimes he had just the right idea.
