Chapter 6:
“Go to his chambers and bring him,” my father ordered me.
“But-“ I started.
“Enough Adeline, I’ve heard enough,” he said using the Speak leaving the room. This made me shut my mouth but I didn’t feel the chains binding me like the villagers described. I thought about it for a while.
Irene sighed, “Be nice Princess, give him a chance.”
“I saw him yesterday,” I said.
“When you were supposed to be sleeping?” Irene asked knowingly. I could hear the words between the lines. She was accusing me of getting together with the prince so we could sleep together.
“Yes, I couldn’t sleep so I went to Alice’s room for a while,” I said.
“Did you wake her up?” Irene asked warily.
“No,” I said, “she was asleep so I left.” I knew better than to wake my little sister up. Alice was notorious for not going back to sleep once she was interrupted from it.
“Is that what you meant by he didn’t know where the kitchen was,” Irene asked.
“Yes,” I said, “he was lost. And I helped, but that was another night.”
“Good,” Irene exclaimed, “you were nice.”
“Yes,” I said rolling my eyes, “to an extent.”
Irene sighed, “At least you’ll look pretty.”
After yesterday’s ensemble, my father told Irene that I had to look stunning on this date with the prince, as some kind of apologize for my behavior last week.
So Irene fitted me in a short-sleeved purple silk dress with silver accents and designs. The bodice was decorated with emeralds along the sweetheart neckline. I wore my hair down except for two small braids along the side of my head. And lastly, she put my second best everyday tiara. It was silver with diamonds and emeralds on it.
“Yeah,” I agreed scratching my side, “pretty but uncomfortable.”
“Done,” Irene said admiring her handiwork, “now go meet the prince.”
“Fine,” I said exiting my room.
I felt my dress swish around my legs as I made my way to the guest chambers. I knocked on the door and let myself in. I squeezed my eyes shut but then opening them again not wanting to come across as a prude.
“Ah,” King Felix said bowing, “It is a pleasure to see you Princess Adeline.”
“Hello King Felix,” I said returning his bow with one of my own, “Where is Prince Joshua?”
“He is coming,” he said glancing at the bathroom.
“I am here,” he said wearing a white tunic with weird billowing sleeves, some minimal armory, and an emerald green cape made of the same material as my sleeping robe.
“Good,” I said, “let’s go.” I left the room not even caring if he was following me, but the clicks of his armor told me he was.
We walked into the warrior chambers, which was usually busy around this time, full of the royal hunters and guard, but not today. I guess my father had cleared the room for our date.
