I miss the time where everything was normal. Where everything was so easy. Where I could walk outside without fear of being killed.
If only I hadn't heard that twig snapping, this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't have almost died twice. I wouldn't be wanting to die.

We sat under our oak tree, with our names carved into it, Jessica and I. It is in my strong belief that we both remember the scent of fall just beginning on that day. We were best friends. I knew her secrets. We laughed and gossiped. We cried and screamed. But on that particular day, we were silent. Enjoying each other's company. And as I looked into her deep green eyes, it happened. The twig snapped.
We looked around, seeing nothing. I grew worried, but Jessica tried to assure me that it was only a squirrel. Then, the voice. The loud, thundering, abusive voice. "GET OVER HERE OR I WILL SHOOT YOU!" I never had to think. I just ran, hair in my face, hoping she would be beside me. And she was. So I ran faster. We heard the gunshots. We zig-zagged through the woods and thought we lost him until everything went dark. I heard a scream, and it took me a second to realize it was coming from my mouth.
We landed hard, and it was dark. So, so dark. Jessica found a path, and we held hands while tip toeing. I heard a gasp and felt something run across my foot. I shushed Jessica and we walked faster. I heard an odd sound, and it was as if there were computers this far underground. I leaned against the wall of dirt and sighed. Jessica found where the sound was coming from. I wasn't imagining it. There was a room with an actual lighting and heating system.
In it were dozens of computers. Some were cameras, some were headshots. There was one big screen unlike the others though. It was a blueprint.
I read through all the files while Jessica examined the blue print. She grabbed my arm and whispered, "It's a bomb." Before she even finished, a whole group of men came into the large room with guns, talking, looking worried, maybe because we were so young.
They didn't hesitate to shoot at us though. They got me first, in the shoulder. I've probably scarred Jessica with the inhuman scream that came from me. I fell, inhaling the dirt and looking for something to grab, trying to breathe. Jessica picked me up and I ran as fast as I could manage. She, as amazing as she is, managed to get a gun from a man and shoot the majority of them.
Enough for us to escape, at least. That was the first time that happened. We pretty much drifted after that. Now that you're all caught up, the real story begins.
