Chapter 13
Camila's POV
I spent the following five days after I woke up in the hospital and then everything went fast. Back in Winnipeg I had to go to my dance professors and defer my studies. I very well can't dance when my arm is injured like it is.
"Okay everyone we're gonna start the new semester with talk about events leading up to World War Two." My professor says and I pull out my pad of paper and start writing as fast as I can to keep up with the professors nonsense.
Once I'm finished I come home to sleep. I pass out watching the Ellen show and wake up to a bunch of crashing in the kitchen. I sit up and stare into the darkness that flooded through the house. I stand up and grab a hockey stick from the front door. I walk carefully into the kitchen. I flip on a light and let out a scream ready to attack whoever it might be.
"Hey Camila it's me!" Chase says raising his hands up in defense.
"Jesus Chase! You scared me half to death." I set the stick down against the counter and glare at him.
"I'm sorry Camila. I didn't mean to scare you."
"Jesus Chase!" I exclaim holding my chest. "You're so stupid sometimes I swear."
"Sorry Cam. Would you like something to eat. You know to make up for it." He knows I love my food and won't say no.
"Of course! I'm so hungry."
"I'm making chicken fingers. Something easy that tastes good, alright?"
"Perfect!" He finishes cooking the chicken and we dig in appreciatively.
"Thank you, this is what I needed. School drug on and on," I complain taking a sip of water.
"What was it on today?" Chase asks taking a bite of his chicken.
"It was just talking about the events leading up to World War II and what could have been avoided throughout the thirties. Hitler was the main topic though, so that was interesting."
"Sounds interesting. Haven't learned about Hitler since History class in grade 10."
"Yeah, this is more in depth than the typical history class in high school. Hence, why I am in school for history. It's great, really it is. But; it's a lot to comprehend and understand."
"Wow, a scholar! Josh is one lucky guy!" Chase laughs and I join him.Josh comes through the door and finds us laughing in the kitchen. He lifts me up and sits in my spot pulling me down into his lap.
"Hey you guys! How are you?" He asks kissing my cheek.
"Good buddy. Just thought I'd cook Camila some food because I scared her and I felt bad." He laughs.
"Yeah, I was sleeping and minding my business when he started to make noise. So I grab someone's hockey stick and go into the kitchen ready to strike whoever was in there. It turned out to be Chase and I should've hit him but I didn't want to be rude." Josh is laughing so hard that there is literally no noise coming out of his mouth. "You okay honey?"
"I'm fine! That's just too funny. So, I guess since you have food you don't want to come on a date with me do you?" I look at him funny.
"Baby, are you insane? When do you want to go?"
"In a few hours? We can go ice skating? I mean if that works for you and is alright with your arm. It might not be the best sorry." I kiss him so he'll shut up.
"Of course I want to go skating! My arm's alright as long as if I fall you'll catch me."
"I caught you once didn't I?"
"That's so cheesy! Gross," Chase says and gets up taking his food with him. I turn around so I am straddling him and kiss him.
"That's adorable baby.. I guess I'll trust you to catch me."At the arena he does my figure skates up for me because I can't with my arm being broken and Josh understands.
"You're the best." I kiss his forehead as he pulls my pant leg over the top of the boot on my skate.
"I try baby. Let's go!" He steps on the ice first and then puts his hands out for me to grab. I step on the ice and with my good arm grab his hand in mine.
"So, how's school going? I'm sorry I haven't been around for the past little while." He apologizes to me.
"Josh, I get it. I totally get it, you're a professional hockey player. You're going to be gone for periods of time. School's fine though, I had to defer my studies for dance which sucked. My lecture in history wasn't bad, kind of interesting."
"Tell me about it."
"You want to know about what I learned?"
"Of course I do! If it's something you like I'm willing to learn about what makes you happy."
"Aww, well in the lecture we focused on Hitler and the events in the thirties that might've lead up to the start and ultimate birth of the Nazi's and World War II."
"That sounds so cool."
"It was pretty interesting. I was so tired this morning but it was so interesting it kept me awake."
"I bet, I love that this makes you so happy."
"I love it too. It helps make class so much more interesting."
"That's good love." I drag him behind me as I skate around the ice.
"Slow down! You're going to hurt yourself!"
"No! I'm fine," I giggle as he catches up to me.
"Don't need you hurting your other arm." I shake my head.
"Stop worrying baby!"
"I'm sorry. I'll try harder next time." I slow to a stop and kiss him.
"I understand why you're worrying. Don't worry." He smiles into the kiss.
"I love you." He whispers and I look at him in shock.
"I love you too."
