Riley rubs her eyes, still half asleep, as she slowly starts to wake up. She sits up and notices Maya and Farkle passed out on the ground as well, before her eyes get caught on a gun laying at her side. The last thing that the brunette can remember is talking to Farkle, just as Maya was going to kill Smackle.
Riley drags herself over to Maya, and starts to lightly nudge her awake. She is met with a couple of angry groans from the blonde, so she tries the boy instead.
"Farkle, wake up," Riley softly demands, as she reaches the boy, but he doesn't respond. "Farkle, come on get up," she says, pushing him, causing him to roll over onto his stomach. "Farkle?" Riley gasps, as she notices a bullet hole in his back. She drops to her knees to check his pulse, only to find that he doesn't have one.
"No, no, no, no, no," Riley anxiously whispers to herself, as she springs back up to her feet, and rushes over to the gun she woke up next to. She releases the magazine to check to she if there are any bullets left in the gun.
"Riley, what's going on?" She hears the blonde ask, her voice slightly raspy from just waking up.
The brunette's eyes widen in fear, and she quickly slams the magazine back in place, before shoving the gun into an inner pocket of her jacket.
"Riley?" Maya repeats.
Riley turns around towards the blonde, and Maya instantly notices the fear in the other girl's eyes.
"Riley, are you okay?"
"He-he's dead," Riley stutters.
Maya furrows her eyebrows together and runs her hand through her hair. "Really? I don't remember killing him."
"What's the last thing you do remember?" Riley quickly asks.
Maya shakes her head and rubs the temple of her forehead. "I don't know. Uh- I think last thing I remember is walking over to Smackle, before I was going to kill her. Speaking of where is she?"
"But you don't remember if you killed her or not?"
Maya takes a minute to think, before she shakes her head no. "What happened to him?" The blonde inquires, as she stands over Farkle's lifeless body.
"Do you think I could have killed him?" Riley asks with a worried expression on her face.
Maya lets out a slight laugh. "You? You couldn't hurt a fly."
"I woke up with a gun laying next to me," Riley blurts out.
Maya turns toward the brunette with a blank look on her face. "What?"
"When I woke up just now, there was a gun right next to me. It looks like I could have dropped it or something before I fell asleep. You-you don't think it could have been me that killed him, do you?" Riley asks, her voice now shaking.
Maya glances down at Farkle and then back to Riley. "It looks like you might be more of a threat than I thought you were, Matthews," Maya says, pursing her lips.
Riley falls to the ground and starts to break down. "It couldn't have been me, Maya. I would never hurt anyone like that. I couldn't have killed him," Riley sobs, hugging her knees into her chest and burying her face into her arms.
Maya sighs, walks over to the brunette and bends down to get closer to Riley. "Come on. Please don't cry."
"Do you think I'm a bad person?" Riley asks, raising her head, revealing that her eyes are already stained red from her tears.
Maya adjusts herself so she is sitting next to Riley, and presses a smile onto her face. "I don't think you could be a bad person even if tried."
"Do you really mean that?" Riley asks with the slightest bit of hope outshining the tears in her eyes.
"I really do," Maya nods.
"Thank you, Peaches," Riley mumbles, as she closes her eyes and rests her head on the blonde's shoulder.
Maya glances down at the brunette and a small grin appears on her face.
The two sit like that for awhile, before Maya notices that Riley had been subconsciously pulling up some of the grass, and has left behind a noticeable spot of dirt in the otherwise green field. Maya reaches out for Riley's hand, and intertwines their finger together to make the brunette stop. "Hey, the grass never did anything to you," Maya jokingly comments.
Riley's heart skips a beat, and she loses her breath the instant the ring on the blonde's finger touches her hand. She opens her eyes and raises her head to look at Maya and is instantly meet by her piercing blue eyes. She quickly diverts her eyes to their hands, before quickly jumping up and backing away from Maya.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Maya asks, as she stands up.
"We need to move his body," Riley instantly responds.
"Right now?" Maya questions, puzzled by how fast the other girl got over the fact she likely killed Farkle.
"Yes, right now," Riley says, already holding the boy's feet. "The sooner the better."
"It's just that-"
"Grabs his arms," Riley demands, in order to change the subject.
Maya raises her hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay, I'm going."
[Riley and Maya make it back to camp after moving Farkle's body out into the woods. The dome immediately goes up upon their arrival back, and the two decide to make a fire for the night.]
Awhile has passed since either of the two had said anything, and Maya was starting to get to anxious from the silence. "You can't blame yourself for what happened. He was going to die eventually-"
"Please can we not talk about this right now," Riley mumbles, not moving her gaze from the fire.
"Fine," Maya sighs, before quickly adding in, "but neither of us remember what happened, so we don't know if it really was you that killed him."
"Please," Riley begs, her voice noticeably weak.
"Sorry," Maya mutters.
"Why were you being nice to me earlier today?" Riley asks, after a brief pause in their conversation. "When I was crying you tried to comfort me, and held my hand. Why did you do that?"
"I don't know," Maya shrugs. "I guess I just didn't like seeing you upset."
"But you didn't care about the others like that," Riley reasons. "So why care about me?"
"I-I don't know... I guess there's something different about you."
A small smile appears on the brunette's face, but instantly disappears. "It's behind you," she mutters.
"What?" Maya asks, puzzled, as she turns around to see what Riley is referring to when she discovers a new box off in the distance. The blonde turns back towards Riley. "How long has it been there?"
"A while," Riley mutters in a monotone voice, poking at the fire with a stick.
"Why would you tell me? You realize that whoever opens the box is going to win?"
Maya's comment makes Riley grin. "Are any of us really winning at this point?"
The blonde glances over at the box and then back at Riley. "Are you sure about this?" Maya asks, but receives no response from the brunette, who is still focused on the fire.
Maya reluctantly starts towards the box and takes a deep breath before opening. Within it, all she finds is a single note.
"The time has come for there to only be one... -Your friends at 1b1"
Confused, Maya walks back to Riley with the note in her hand, only to find the brunette girl trying to hide the fact that she is crying. "Riley? What's going on? They only gave us a note."
The brunette wipes away the tears on her face and reaches into her jacket and pulls out the gun she hid there earlier. "It still has one bullet left."
