Chapter 2
I was all dressed up and excited to go dance with Paul. I sat in the living room patiently waiting for Paul to knock on the door but no knock came.
"Are you sure Paul's coming?" Jane, my sister asked.
She was a year older than me, but we acted the same age. I was really close with her and surprisingly we didn't argue often. We both fought more often with our younger sister, Darla who was in 9th grade.
"When's Paul going to be here?!" Darla asked.
Darla had fancied Paul for eternity.
"Soon." I mumbled.
I looked over at the clock. It read 7:15. As I stared at the clock, a loud bang on the door startled me. A bolt of energy coursed through my body causing me to jump up and rush toward the door. But before I could reach it Darla opened the door.
"Hi Paul." She said twirling a piece of her short hair around her finger.
"Hey. Is your sister home?"
I walked up to the door, smiling.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
I nodded and walked outside. We linked arms. I was wearing a dark blue shirt, with a light bluish skirt. Paul wore his usual attire; jeans, a black leather jacket and a white t-shirt.
"Do you like being a teddy boy, Paul?"
He looked down at me, a little confused. "Well, I guess. I can't do anything else though. I'm not smart, or athletic. It fits me so well. I like being a bad boy. What about you?"
"I like being a skipper with two different personalities. It's not the best thing I could be doing. But it's fun and then I get to dress up girly for my best mate at night."
He let out a giggle and then continued to drag me to the dance hall. I could tell we were near because there were a lot of couples that looked similar to us.
"Do you miss not dating Jane?" I blurted out regretting it as soon as it left my mouth.
"Sometimes. But I love you too. As a sister that is."
He patted my hand. I smiled and got on my tip toes. I quickly pecked his cheek and then started to trot as I saw that bright neon lights spelling "Dance Hall"
We ran to the entrance. I could hear the music leaking through the cracks in the door. Paul opened the door; I flashed him a smile and prepared to have a crazy night of dancing.
After about an hour we were tired but continued to dance.
"And now we are accepting people to come up and sing!" The man running the band announced.
Paul looked at me questioningly. I didn't like singing in front of crowds but all the pops have gone to my head so without thinking I agreed.
We ran up. Paul had told the band the song he wanted to sing. It was a song he wrote and taught me how to play on bass.
"Play the bass."
"What?" I couldn't hear his angelic voice over the sound of people singing along to the band.
"I want you to play the bass for the song!"
Again I nodded, not realizing I was performing for the crowd.
"ELLO lads and lassies, I'm Paul and here on bass is the lovely Amelia."
I grinned towards the crowd.
"And the song we will be playing is called Follow the Sun."
As Paul started to sing, lovers were swinging to the song and a few that had even caught onto the beat were humming along. In the back was a couple dancing to their own beat which made me giggle.
I squirmed around as I tried to fit the bass strap perfectly around my neck. Just as I did the song ended. The crowd clapped and hollered. We bowed, my cheeks reddening.
"Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" The audience chanted. Paul and I shrugged, and planted a kiss on each other's lips. Though, this one was filled with love.
The audience yelled and screamed. Both of us blushed and walked off the stage. Maybe I did love Paul beyond our friendship. I couldn't sort out my feelings.
