As Elvis pulls into the drive-in, I can't help but feel confused. The whole place is empty. The field of grass is completely absent of the cars that would normally be lining it. I crane my neck around to look at the ticket booth as we drive past it. The lights are turned off and no one is inside.
"Is this place even open?" I ask, seriously confused. Elvis shoots me a sideways glance and smirks in amusement.
"Sort of." He drives until the car is centered in front of the massive screen and turns the car off. After a few moments there is a light tap on Elvis's window, making me jump. He chuckles at this, shaking his head as he rolls down the window. A young man in a work uniform stands there carrying a bag of popcorn and two sodas.
"Would you like to start the movie now Mr. Presley?" He says in a shaky voice after handing over the snacks.
"That would be great, thank you. Oh, and Mr. Presley is my daddy's name, you can call me Elvis." The man nods before hastily turning and heading away. Watching as he walks away, I notice that the concession building has its lights on and I can see a few workers bustling around inside. Turning to Elvis I cock my head to the side.
"Wait, did you rent this place out?" I ask, astonished. Elvis offers a crooked smile and bobs his head up and down in a nod.
"You said you wanted to go to the movies."
I feel my heart melt. "How'd I end up with a guy this amazing?"
"I don't know, I'll go ask him." He retorts back with a grin. I chuckle and playfully smack his arm before grabbing his hand and bringing it to my lips to give him a kiss.
"I love you," I say, giving his hand a squeeze.
"Love you too darling."
A few second later the large screen in front of us lights up, showing the black and white introduction credits of the movie. I scoot closer to Elvis and he puts his arm around me. Leaning my head against his shoulder, I snuggle into him as I try to get comfortable. He plants a kiss on the top of my head and smooths my hair down before leaning back into his seat. I move the bag of popcorn onto my lap as the two of us settle in to watch the movie.
Though I do enjoy the movie, as I predicted, it doesn't scare me at all. But during the more intense scenes I can feel Elvis tighten his arm around me and see him glance over at me out of the corner of my eye, which makes me smile. He's so cute.
It's fairly late by the time the movie finishes and I am pretty tired, so we decide to call it a night and head back to Graceland. The ride doesn't take very long and once we pull into the driveway and Elvis turns the car off we head inside.
As we take off our shoes Vernon makes his way down the hall and offers us a hello before asking to talk to Elvis. I smile and nod, excusing myself to go upstairs so I can go to my room and pass out. I don't pay much attention to what they begin talking about, but after a few moments when I am halfway up the stairs something that Vernon says catches my attention and stops me in my tracks.
