Never have I ever wanted to sock someone in the face than I did at this moment. Even Ax's annoyance seemed to be far much better than this torture.
Jan!
I always knew there was a reason I did not like the man.
It was one if those feelings that you get when you meet someone and immediately get the wrong vibe from them at the get go. Finding out he had paedophiliac tendencies just affirmed my feelings towards him.
Now this.
Even Ax was damn near ready to land one on his handler's smirking face. He, Jan, enjoyed torture in any form or means. And this was one of the things assassins loathed far more than having to relive their pasts.
Working with others.
Call it selfish or whatever the hell you want. We did not play well with others.
I could already see the outcome of this before it has even begun.
I winced at the image.
Blood and gore was all I fore so, and it was neither Ax's nor mine.
They seemed just affected as the both of us, but for much different reasons. With their barely concealed shaky eyelid movements, slight flattening of their lips, and shift in their bodies, they were scared.
They had tried to mask it too, exuding a confidence far preceding them.
They had balls I'll give them that. Not many would want to spend an undetermined amount of time with a ticking time bomb, who could just as easily kill you with so much as a wrong gaze.
"Come again?" Ax asked, as though this was one of Jan's many forms of sick humor.
Jan lifted his gaze from the documents he had been reading.
"The four of you will be working together on this mission. We are waiting on our final guest then you shall be briefed. Get acquainted." He announced before returning to his documents.
Get acquainted my right ass cheek!
I glanced at Knox.
No help there he was busy with his documents as well, as though the created tension in the room was the least of his issues.
Squaring my shoulders, I took the seat in front of my 'new teammates', Ax taking the seat next to me.
I took this time to properly look at the two. Gunner was a large man. Far larger than anyone I had ever come across, made entirely of pure muscle. He was dark-skinned, with a full beard neatly combed and trimmed. His black hair was buzz-cut, staying true to the signature military look. He had a pair of thick brows that framed onyx colored eyes.
His counterpart, April, was rosy-skinned with a thick mane of shoulder-length chestnut brown hair. She was slender in build and much taller than my slight frame even in her seated position. Her hazel eyes were narrowed as they locked eyes on me, and her already thin lips flattened with barely concealed loath.
"Ax is the name, and this big ball of sunshine is Snow."
He really couldn't help himself!
What had happened to keeping a united front against the opponents?
Any show of dominance we had on our end was completely obliterated the second the buffoon decided to open his mouth.
Gunner raised his brow at Ax, obviously trying to decipher what he was on.
