I wake up slowly opening my eyes, my head is pounding "another hangover..great" i murmured to myself. Looking down at my body, i realised i must have been that drunk i slept in my clothes. "Seize the day" i thought, as i climb out of bed and into the shower. Showered and now dressed i wonder what i can do with my day. Andrew was at work today so i was left to occupy myself, which was harder than it sounds as i didn't know the area or many people. My phone chimes from the bedside table, i swipe it up and look at the screen. Its a text from Amelia, "Hi, i hope you aren't too hungover today, do you fancy meeting up?" I stared at the screen for a few minutes, not knowing if i should agree or even reply at all...was it too soon? I sighed and thought to myself "why not, i had no idea how i was going to fill my day anyway" I click reply "sure, that'd be good. do you have anything in mind?" a few seconds later her reply comes "yep! meet me at Tam O'Shanter on Los Feliz Blvd at 10? i'll drive us the rest of the way." I wonder where or what she has planned "Where are we going?" her reply again comes quickly. "Surprise. i'll see you at 10"
After checking out where i've to meet her online, i check my watch..its already 9.15 and i decide i should start making my way to Tam O'shanter since Google Maps told me it takes around 20 minutes to get there and you know me, i like to be punctual. I call a cab and grab my jacket and keys and head out the door. I arrive about 9:50, standing outside the restaurant with my hands in my pockets I'm still curious to where we are going, i didn't much like surprises. "Hey" i look up and see Amelia standing there, looking up at me. "Hey, i'm sorry i didn't see you there, i've been trying to think where we could be going" i reply. A small, girlish laugh escapes from her mouth "Oh i don't think you'll be able to guess, come on lets go" She tells me she's just parked around the corner as we start to make our way along the sidewalk.
"We're here" Amelia exclaims, we've only been driving a few minutes so i am surprised. I look up and see the sign. Los Angeles Zoo. I look at her, slightly confused. "surprise! i thought it would be kind of cool to just spend the day wandering and this seemed like a good place to start" she says hopefully. I look at her and laugh "Well you were right, i would never have guessed this is what you had planned"
We've spent about an hour walking around, chatting about nothing and everything. It's been nice, i thought..no expectation's'. We come to a stop outside a small building, looking around i see its called The Lair. "Come on lets go in" Amelia says grabbing my arm, pulling me in. Once i'm inside, i freeze....reptiles...more worryingly snakes. Yes i have a fear of snakes. She looks at me confused "whats up?" she asks. "um..i...i have a phobia of snakes, can we please go?" "of course, i'm sorry i had no idea" she replies with a sad look on her face. "of course you wouldn't, don't worry about it. Lets go and get some food"
I make my way out of that place, probably not seeing me for dust with Amelia dragging behind. We make our way back to the car and decide we should eat where we met earlier in the day. We chat through dinner, learning little facts about each other, talking about our families. My phone rings and i see Andrews name flash up on the screen, i apologise and step out to take his call. "hey, is everything alright?" i answer. "every things good, do you want to hang out later, grab a few beers at home, see if there is a footie match on?" I look through the window at her, we've spent most of the day together she wont mind right? i think to myself. "sure, i'll be home in about an hour, you get the beers in" i reply. Making my way back inside take my seat. "everything okay?" she asks. "great, i'm going to have to head home though, you don't mind do you?" She looks, i don't know hurt? surely not.."oh, yeah of course, i've taken up so much of your day already. I had a good time..can we do it again? "i'd like that, maybe you can surprise me again" i reply with a smile. After saying goodbye outside of the restaurant, i hail and cab and make my way back home, looking forward to spending the night relaxing.
