Joy Isn't Joyful

Chapter 2

My exams are coming up soon so I might not update for a while.

The rest of the day was a blur. I just couldn't get my head around what Ian had said. I rushed out of the classroom as soon as the bell rang in case he tried to talk to me again. My heart just wasn't ready for that!

When I got home, I literally ran to my room nearly tripping on the stairs. I slammed my door shut and fell face first on my bed. I stayed in that position until my mom called me down for dinner so I had to drag myself downstairs.

"Joy. Joy! JOY?!"

"H-huh? Mom, did you call me?" I guess I was spacing out. I just couldn't stop thinking it. Why did he say that? He wanted to kiss me? Is it just about how I look now? Ugh! So many questions!!

"Yes, I did. Could you get me some tomato sauce from the pantry? I'm making pizza 🍕."

"OK," I replied as I got the tomato sauce from the pantry. Even if it was my favorite food I didn't really feel like eating tonight.

~~Time skip to next day~~

If I was going to be honest, I have no idea what today and before I realized I was walking home. Unfortunately, I was going to meet Jack when I get home.

As soon as I entered the house through the front door I gasped at a buzzing sound in my pocket. Oh right, it's my phone. I don't usually use it so I'm not too sure about how it works. I got a text message:

'Hey babe. U and me at the park. Be there by five.'

I was internally screaming (maybe not only internally). Who just asked me out? Do I actually go? What do I do, what do I do?! I really need a friend right now but after years of school I doubt I'll be able to get any. After I had calmed down I replied:

'What?!  Who is this? And how did u get my number?'

'It's Ian'

'How did you get my num.'

'That's for me to know n you 2 find out. '

I rolled my eyes, 'Whatever'. And that was the end of our (weird) conversation.

Joy, what have you gotten yourself into?

When got up into my room, I checked the time, seeing it was an hour before I was supposed to meet Ian I quickly showered and threw on a faded 'NERDS RULE!' T-shirt, blue knee-length jeans and black converses.

I was just about to go through the back door when Jack saw me sneaking out,

"Where are you going all dressed up like that."

"None of your business," I snapped back a bit too fast.

"You know Mum isn't going to like this," he said stating the obvious.

"I'll be  back before she comes home!" My mom works a full time job as a bank manager. She often comes home late and tired not to mention she has to pick up Hazel every time from daycare.

I was kinda excited to see Ian. I mean this is my first hanging out with a person other than my siblings and Mum. I'm kinda what you would call socially awkward when it came to people in general but that was going to change in a couple of minutes.

Sure enough, Ian was waiting for me at the entrance of the park. He had this weird goofy look on his face. Weird?

He tried holding my hand but withdrew immediately. I just met you dude! I'm not going to be holding your hand and touching you because for all I know you could be psychotic maniac.

He sighed and pointed to a nearby ice-cream truck.

"Want some?"

"Sure," I said trying to play it cool. After we got some ice-cream we just talked. We talked about anime, food, video games, movies and a bunch of other things too.

"You're pretty cool Joy," Ian said as he seemed to be staring into my very soul.

"You're kinda cool too Ian." I didn't know that a jock could be so...I don't know, free? He didn't seem to be holding back his opinions about all the different things we talked about.

Not that I had a problem with that though.

"Joy, even though we've not known each other for a long time, I feel like I could tell you any thing at all. And let me tell you it's a pretty good feeling." I was about to reply when I felt a drop of rain on my face then suddenly, out of nowhere, it started pouring.

We quickly said bye to each other and ran our separate ways. Now I'm going home, soaked, to meet my mom's wrath.
