Something Like Love

It was my first day of school at Dakota, which was the second week of school for everyone else. I was so scared. This was only my third day in Detroit. I'm glad I knew at least two people. These girls, Teresa and Lina, who lived down the street from my grandparents. I remember leaving my grandparents' house and they'd be waiting for me to return. Every summer we'd play together until I had to go back to Houston.

After the administrator gave me my schedule, it was third hour. I had biology. Luckily Teresa had that class too. When we got the class, I introduced myself. I couldn't help but notice the boy walking in. I already knew who he was. Teresa told me all about him. His name is Aaron, but everybody calls him AJ. He sat in the back with a group of other boys. As I sat down, I overheard him ask another boy about me.

"Who is that?" He asked.

"New girl, Yvonne. Fine, ain't she?" One of the others said.

"Bet I get her first." Another boy stated while walking over to me.

"Wassup, I'm Dre."

Teresa and I just look at him in disgust.

"HOED!" exclaimed AJ.

Thirty minutes later, class was over. My first day and I already got homework up to my damn shoulder. I got to my locker to put my jacket in it.

"Hey." said a deep voice out of nowhere.

I turned around to see AJ.

"Don't mind my bro, Dre. I guess the boy ain't never seen a girl as pretty as you."

As much as I wanted to melt, I wasn't about to be in a category with these thots around here. Even though, he was the finest boy in the school. I mean he 's tall, brownskin, with amber eyes, and a smile to die for. He's captain of the basketball team and he stayed crispy, what girl wouldn't want him?

I guess he noticed the way he made me blush and smiled then said, "I'm....."

I cut him off and stated, "I know who you are. Can't go nowhere in this school without hearing yo name."

He chuckled and said, "You should hit me up sometimes."

He tucked the little piece of paper in my back pocket and walked away. Lina walked up and asked what was all that about. I told her I'd text her the details later.

By this time, I was at lunch. I didn't have anywhere to sit because Teresa and Lina didn't have my lunch hour. As I stood hopelessly looking around, when Aaron walked up and grabbed me by my waist. I almost swung on him but he held me too tight. I wanted to scream "Lemme Go" but I was too busy smiling.

"No place to sit?"

I straight faced him.

"Come on, sit with me. I ain't gone bite you." He said with a wink.

I sat with him and we talked for a minute before this girl came to sit between us.

"Hey Baby!" She exclaimed while grimming me lowkey.

Her name is Brianna. She's pretty darkskin and about 5'4. I guess she felt intimidated by me, off of how Aaron was on me so much.

"Who is she?" She tried to whisper.

"I'm Yvonne." I stated.

Her eyes rolled as she whispered something in his ear and pulled him away.

"Ooooooo." All his friends said in unison.

"What?" I chuckled.

"Nothing."
