(Adele above as Natalie Portman)

about a year and a half later

It was the last day of sophomore year.

Over the last two years of schooling, Natalie, Beth, Adele, and I became really close. Natalie and Beth were, of course, inseparable. I spent a lot of time growing close to Adele.

Adele was an amazing friend.

She was practically carefree and extremely hilarious.

At first, it was a bit weird that she was a year older than me, but then I became used to it and it was cool.

"NAT! BETH! GINGER! Oh my gosh I have the most fantastic news!" Adele screeched as she ran towards out usual lunch table, almost knocking over her lunch and other people's too.

We all attempted to contain our laughter, but I accidentally cracked.

"What's so funny? I have amazing news!"

We all hushed ourselves as we waited for her to say her supposed 'amazing news.'

"My mom said you guys can come over my house for an end of the year sleepover tonight!"

We all shrieked giddy little teenage girl shrieks. We had only been to Adele's house for ten minutes at a time dropping her off or picking her up. Adele and Beth could drive but, unfortunately, Nat and I couldn't.

Anyways, Adele's parents were apparently 'not the most pleasant to be around' as they were always fighting. Adele also mentioned something about how her brother was embarrassing, but other than that, we just kind of didn't go to Adele's.

I was excited for tonight. We had had an end of the year sleepover last year at Beth's, but that sort of went down hill when Nat threw up her Rocky Road because she had forgotten to mention that she was allergic to nuts.

I was sure this year would he much better.

dingdong

I waited patiently on Adele's doorstep with Nat and Beth. We had all decided to come together since we weren't all the familiar with her parents and didn't want to be awkward. Or at least awkward alone.

Adele's mother came to the door and opened it with a huge smile. She didn't seem the fighting type, but I'd take Adele's word for it.

"Hello, girls! Adele is in the living room. My husband and I are going to a work party for the night, if thats okay? We probably won't be back until seven or eight tomorrow morning."

We all nodded as we entered the house and started towards the living room, which we knew the way too, although it wasn't extremely familiar.

"Okay, girls. Have fun tonight!" She dismissed us with a wave.

"C'mon, Hank! We'll be late for your boss's house!" she shouted in an angrier fashion.

She gave us another smile before walking over to her daughter and planted a kiss on her head.

"Have fun tonight, Adele. Make sure your brother stays in his room."

Adele nodded and waited until the sound of car exhaust was very faint.

"Ugh," she said, throwing herself back onto her sleeping bag.

"Your mom isn't that bad," Beth said.

"That's fine. You're entitled to the wrong opinion, Bethany."

"You sure you haven't eaten any Rocky Road, Nat?" I asked jokingly.
