There will be people who constantly put you down. They will tell you that "you can't succeed" or "you are setting yourself up for disappointment". Don't let them get to you. They could be people you once cared about, your friends or family. They don't get to make decisions for you. You are your own person. You need to achieve for yourself or else you won't be anyone. You need to strive for your goals because no one else is going to do it for you. You have to believe in yourself. You need to do it for you. If you want to get out work for it. I used to think I had to do everything for everyone. I don't and neither do you. Do it for you. Do what you want for yourself not anyone else. Don't let anyone tell you who you have to be. Be yourself. Most importantly believe in you. You need yourself. We need to know who we are and the best way to do that is to believe. You may believe in God. You may believe in Jesus or Allah or Buddha. Or you may not believe in that at all. There is only one thing you need to believe in and that is you.
