Once I got home I changed out of my clothing. They smelled like smoke so I threw them in the wash. I'm never going to a party again. I changed into an oversized tshirt and shorts and leaped into bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow I fell fast asleep.
I was awoken by a crack of thunder. My mom knocked.
"Come in" I groaned.
Her light brown hair was a tangly mess. She walked toward me with a candle.
"The power went out Valerie." She set the candle on my nightstand.
"What time is it?" I sat up rubbing my eyes.
She checked her watch. "Time for you to get in the shower or you're going to be late."
I hopped out of bed and walked lethargicly to the bathroom. I closed the door and undressed. I hated mornings. I hated school. I hated getting up period. The shower was warm against my cold skin. I washed my hair with a berry scented shampoo. It took everything in me not to fall asleep.
Once I finished showering, I snatched a pair of hi-waisted jeans from my closet and a cropped t-shirt and dressed myself.
"Val, come get breakfast!" my mom called from downstairs.
I yawned grabbing my black and white sneakers. "Coming!"
Crap, I forgot my stuff. I grabbed my backpack and ran to the bathroom quickly applying some mascara and lipgloss. I liked to keep it simple, my mom wasn't to fond of makeup claiming it destroyed your pores and aged you faster, so she only allowed me to wear the minimum. sometimes I went without any though. I didn't need it that much at least.
"Valerie! You're going to be late and I will not drive you, young lady."
It's too early for this. I run down the stairs into the kitchen and kiss my mom on the cheek. "Morning, again."
She hands me a plate of strawberries and toast. "You have less than five minutes to eat, get chomping Val."
I stuff the toast down succeeding to make me feel nauseous. Great. Just what I needed, to throw up and be even more late.
"Your dad called."
I stopped chewing. "Oh. Why?"
She collected her curly hair. Unlike her, I had straight long brown hair that hung to my waist. "He's your father, what do you expect? You never call him back. You're going to have to sooner or later."
I take a sip of coffee to waterdown the food. "I choose later." I run to quickly brush my teeth then we head to school.
~~~~~
The first day of school and I was going to be late. How perfect.
I walked down to my locker and stuffed my lunch in it.
"Is that who I think it is?" a familiar voice called.
I turned my head and watched Kenzie my bestfriend walk towards me, her shoulder length dirty blonde hair layered with style. She looked gorgeous with a sky blue dress and white flats.
"Hey." I hugged her tight.
"Thanks for completely ditching me and Sarah at that party last night Val." She flicked my arm with her perfectly manicured fingers.
I rolled my eyes and laughed. "You know I hate those things."
She nodded distractedly. "I met someone last night."
I turned to face her. Kenzie hasn't dated since last summer due to her falling out with her boyfriend of 5 years Chase. This was a shock. "Who?"
We walked to Homeroom and sat in the middle area. She eyed the door and leaned in. "His name is Niall. Really hot. I mean wow. Blonde. Kinda tall. Insanely hilarious and did I mention really hot?"
"I want to meet him." I turned to face forward as Mrs. Craig our Pre-Calculus walked to the front of the room.
"Welcome to the class of 2015. You are all seniors now. Exciting, but that doesn't mean you have to slack in your studies because it is your last year. No, you have to work harder, strive for more goals."
Someone knocked on the door and all heads turned towards it as a guy with black jeans, a leather jacket, white T-shirt and black converse walked in.
The guy from last night. I sunk low in my chair to make sure I was hidden.
"Late on the first day. What is your full name young man?" Mrs. Craig took a step towards him clearly annoyed at his tardiness.
"Zayn Malik." He glanced at me and smirked. I rolled my eyes. Dear Lord, just take me away.
The girls in the room chattered endlessly at the new guy with the dashing accent.
Kenzie wiggled her eyebrows at him. I wanted to barf.
"Take a seat anywhere Mr. Malik, and please do not be late to my class again." Mrs. Craig went back to the introduction of the class.
Out of my peripheral vision I see Zayn walk to the empty desk behind me and sit.
I can feel his hot breath next to my ear as he leans in and says. "This is going to be an exciting class, ay?"
