Chapter 3- Does it Hurt Yet?

My feet hurt from walking and any place that could have blisters does. I should have made it to the main road by now, I think to myself. I must be on my fourth hour of walking, at least. I can start to feel the exhaustion setting in. Combine that with lack of food, blaring sun, and minimal water, and you've got yourself a case of heat exhaustion there. I slouch against a tree and just try to regain any strength I could possible have. I pull out my map again and just try to estimate my location. "God fucking damn it", I say out loud. I've been walking parallel to the road this whole time. What a dumbass...

Just as I'm about to get up and actually try to find the main road, I hear a car in the distance. Survivors, I think to myself. I sprint towards in the direction of the roaring engine and try to keep up with it. Finally, I see a path from the woods to the main road. With all my remaining strength, I hop over trees and avoid the dead lunging for my neck. I just through the remaining brush just as the car passes. "Damn near hit me!", I think, while jogging towards the vehicle. I do notice that it doesn't seem to be any camp vehicle I've seen back at the grounds, but you never know. Maybe they found another one...

*Warren POV*
"Who the hell was that?", I yell. Some little girl just hopped out of the bushes and we damn beat ran her over. "Someone get my back, I'm gonna go see what the hell is going on", I shout to the backseat.  10k quickly jumps out of the driver's side door and comes to my side. "Alright, so I'm gonna approach her and I'm gonna be calm, but I'm not putting up with no bullshit, you hear?" I snap at 10k. He nods his head in response. As we approach the girl, we notice her haggard attire. It looks like she hasn't seen any camps for days, even weeks. Better be careful with this one, I think to myself.

*Elizabeth POV*

I'm cautious not to act too excited to finally see survivors when these two people emerge from the vehicle. One, a short but commanding African-American woman who has eyes that with just a look could cut you into pieces. She holds her gun close to her chest, ready to fire when needed but showing she has control over her firearm. The second person, a tall, lanky white boy who wears goggles and copious amounts of army garb. He has almost a puppy-dog demeanor, seeming as if he wouldn't hurt a fly. Contrastingly, he holds a massive sniper rifle and a sling shot. What a paradox, I think to myself.

"State your name, where you're from, and your intentions" the lady commands. "Elizabeth, a camp just south of here, I think, and we just got overrun. I'm looking for anyone from my camp. Or actually anyone at all", I swiftly answer back, careful not to give away too much information about myself. "Do you know where any of your people might be?" the woman asks. "I really don't know. It was such a shit show back there I can't remember a thing. I promise I mean no hard to you two, I'm just looking for anyone", I answer back, pulling the sympathy card on myself. I see the two survivors confer for a second before the boy announces to me, "you seem decent. I'm going to have to make sure your weapons are confiscated if you're coming with us, though". "Fine by me", I retort, happy to finally have a safe place, at least for now.
