She is stuck. Stuck in the past and the future. Her present doesn't matter because she lives by what her past used to be and what her future will be. She says the only reason she bothers with her present is because she has to.
She is so certain that the moment she gets on the plane and reaches her destination, she will be able to live again. I ask her, aren't you just waiting to escape the present. She agrees. Then I ask her, what about your grandparents? Aren't they a part of your present? She nods her head.
Then I go on to say, "So doesn't that mean whenever you get the opportunity, you will up and leave them? Never look back at them again? They'll probably pass away by the time you come back."
At that she looks at me in horror. Then tears start pooling up in her eyes and slowly they roll down her cheeks. Small whimpers escape her mouth and she looks away. Like I just broke her.
But I only told her the truth. Only told her, what she never thought of. I told her reality. But I feel guilty.
I gave her another reason to feel horrible. More people to feel sad and apologetic for.
