Doubt, Distrust and Jealousy
Grocery bags in both hands, thump, thump, she approached the doors of their apartment.
He heard her.
“One second,” Jason informed Arianna on Skype, “I have to unlock the door for Michelle.”
Arianna smiled through the laptop screen.
Jason got up from the couch and upon opening the door, he smiled at his fiancée.
“Baby, I spent 20 minutes looking for Heinz mayonnaise like you wanted. But baby, I think they are out of stock, so I chose Hellmans instead. I hope you do not mind-“
He stopped her rant, he interrupted her sweetly.
Hand on her shoulder, “I do not mind.”
He smiled, kissed her on the cheek ever so lightly and took all the groceries from her hands. “I will put all these away later; I am skyping with Arianna right now.”
Outwardly, Michelle remained composed; smiled and proceeded to her room.
On her bed, there she lay, going through romantic pictures on Tumblr, trying to ignore the conversation that was occurring next door.
Arianna: the epitome of perfection; face like Aphrodite, heart like diamond. The first girl Jason loved, the first lady Jason fell in love with, the first woman Jason asked to marry!
She met her twice. Both times, Arianna carried herself with grace, humility and charm. It was easy to love her.
Her face in her pillows, her feet kicking up and down, “AAAHHHH!” Michelle screamed inwardly.
She knew Jason loved her. But yet, behind her mind, she questioned the possibility of a man loving two women at the same time.
Doubts should not exist in a relationship right?
Distrust should not accompany lovers right?
Jealousy should not...
“Thank-you for buying the Maltesers, I know how much you detest them,” he jumped onto the bed drawing her body over his and squeezing tightly.
He smiled. She wiggled herself free.
She lay facing the ceiling; he readjusted, he faced the ceiling.
“Anything the matter?”
“It does not matter”
“Mmmhhm, well I spoke with the wedding planner today, we have Four Seasons for sure!” his voice echoed excitement.
No response.
“Titanic is coming on tonight, you want to watch?”
Silence.
“Alrighty... no Titanic, I suppose we will stay here in bed all night; I don’t mind. I love staring at your face anyways” He smiled, stretching his hands until they met hers.
He took her hands and interlocked them.
Quiet lingered.
“Do any of the atoms within your heart foster love for her?” She asked calmly.
“Love as in the kind I felt for her, Love as in the kind I feel for you, Love as in the romantic kind... I would be damned if I did. I would be a fool if I let Cupid plant that arrow. I would be mindless if I allowed my heart to venture there,”
“I am sorry you feel that way” he faced away from her.
For his heart yearned for her,
His soul craved for her,
And his mind longed for her.
For Michelle was his, and he was hers.
“Tell me you love me?”
“I wish I did Michelle. I wish it was that plain,” He turned toward her, “I am in-love with you.”
