The Election and People's Fears

I was actually going to update Porcelain tonight, but with protestors outside my work and a lot of fear and I thought I should address this message to anyone willing to listen or anyone willing to share.

So, it doesn't matter who you supported. Donald J. Trump will be the next President of the United States of America. And personally, I voted for Hillary. But after waiting out my night to type this and doing my research and going through social media, I feel like I have a few thoughts on this thoughtless election. Here goes.

First of all, this election has had the most divisive results ever in our country. It turns out that a woman against a chaotic man is worse than a black man against two white men. And I just have to express my sadness and my confusion. I think Americans only see the word America in the name that belongs to our country. It's not just America, it's the United States of America. United. And we could not be more divided than we are today.

And I don't know how Mr. Trump will hold out as president. I don't know if he'll keep his word on all the threats he's made, and I don't know if he'll do a good job. What scares me is that I don't know. And for some, that is why they voted for him.

On the topic of the USA, I am so disappointed in what we have let this election turn us into. And yet, I strongly believe there are still good people. We have the power to control what our future President chooses, even if it seems like we don't. We need to be strong, not positive per se. We need to choose what is right, even if everyone around us says it's wrong. We need to improve our moral values together because as we've seen in this election, it is at its lowest. Or maybe we just need to stop thinking of ourselves as Americans, and start thinking of ourselves as humans.

On the note of Donald Trump, here is what I have to say. In 2012, I was a freshman in high school, and the racist people around me were pissed off that Obama had won. To that, I had promised that as a citizen, as a JROTC cadet, as a member of this society, I would respect my President regardless of who that was. I would respect them and perform my civic duty because it is not only the President that leads us. We, as the people, guide the President as well. And the Senate and the House and the Courts have the power to protect us.
So I will raise my white flag and congratulate him.

On top of that, I saw sincerity and genuineness in his speech last night. I see passion in what he says even though sometimes what he says is false or misguided and rude. I see a human, and unfortunately, this is what we are and this is who will be representing us and maybe we were right to choose such a strong representation of our values to lead us. But I saw his graciousness to thank Hillary Clinton and that gives me hope, even if it is small.

So I'm gonna keep writing. And I'm going to keep laughing. And smiling. And crying. And complaining. And living. Because we don't have another choice, and there's no point in wishing away the days of this election. Personally, it's been so exhausting, I'm just glad it's done.
