She's a third year med school student trying to work her way both through her massive student debt and the everyday living expenses of Boston, whilst also trying to a land a converted residency position at New York Presbyterian Hospital. N.Y was the largest and highest ranking hospital New York City, 8th in the country. By the time she entered the medical school application process, she had already spent all of high school and her undergraduate years hyper-focused on excellence in academics and extracurricular activities. She not only had an aptitude for health and sciences, but also an enduring passion for the medical field. Few career paths require such relentless tests of resolve and commitment as the path to becoming a doctor. Still, it is a challenge for even a highly qualified applicant to stand out during the admissions process. She new the chances of landing a residency position at her first choice of hospital  would be slim if without a strong work ethic and dedication to her studies. The last thing she needs is the interruption of a former relationship to come throw her world into a spiral. She's desperate for cash and finds the time of his arrival suspicious,  she initially doesn't question why her rent check didn't bounce that month when it defiantly should have. Or how she received such a raving letter of recommendation form her profesor out of the blue. Initially, she doesn't question anything. Traveling back to California for her sisters wedding she will finely put all the Pieces together and be confronted by the last person she thought would be there him.
