I felt my heart drop to the very pits of my stomach when my eyes discovered that the only hope I had of getting out of this city was just crushed and stomped on. I had no idea what to do - this was the closest and only exit that I had had any chance of escaping through.
My legs almost gave out as what little hope I had left crumbled from within me. I stopped running; there was no use now, everything I had just done was in vain.
I heard the guards clambering towards me noisily, their armored-footsteps getting closer by the second.
--------------------Male Prisoner's POV--------------------
As soon as the wood elf was released from her shackles, she darted off the platform and towards the nearest exit. I effortlessly maneuvered through the clamoring people, finding refuge between two buildings that provided an ample amount of shade. I waited silently, watching the small elf to make sure that she was able to make it safely out of the area. I had planned on meeting her once she was far enough away from the city walls, but when she got to the gates, she just stopped.
I stared, noticing that the large entryway was completely and utterly blocked shut. Muttering curses under my breath, I dashed in between rows of shops and buildings, using this moment to focus a burst of Fire Magic onto the chains. They melted slowly, and I growled in impatience.
Nimbly leaping from shadow to shadow, I quickly reached the spot where the little wood elf stood rooted to the spot. She was now surrounded by guards, each of them cursing at her and shoving the tips of their swords at her delicate throat.
The sight of them around her and the hopeless look in her beautiful golden eyes made me snarl to myself. Without even thinking, I burst out into the open and rammed through the barricade of guards with an enormous amount of ferocity, lifting the feminine creature up into my arms swiftly. I took off, fortunately spotting another gate just up ahead that was slowly being lowered.
Sprinting towards the opening, I grit my teeth and looked down at the woman in my arms, almost getting lost in the pool of gold that encircled her pupils. Her slender arms held onto me tightly, surprisingly strong for such a small girl, and I gripped her so strongly that my own arms hurt.
Looking towards the gate again, I saw that there was only a thin line of space before the door would connect permanently with the ground. Making a quick decision, I glanced down at the girl who I was holding protectively in my grasp, murmuring so that only she could hear.
"Stay safe. Go to Riverwood."
Her face was full of confusion as I suddenly slid her underneath the gates, right before they shut completely.
