*knock knock knock*

It was a dark night. Quiet. Crystal clear. The moon was shining brightly. It had just rained, so the world seemed fresher, more alive. And I was taking a walk.

My footsteps echoed with the occasional splash as I strolled down the sidewalk, small puddles scattered here and there on the pavement. It was still humid, so I remember my hair was starting to frizz, which annoyed me. I would smooth it down every couple of minutes, but it made very little difference. So I stopped to take my hair out of its ponytail, hoping that when I put it back up, it would stay down. And that was when I noticed something rather odd. The smallest of splashes, sounding from where I had just come from.

I turned, still putting my hair up, and saw a dark shadow skitter into the bushes next to the sidewalk. Even though the moon was out and shining, the shadow didn't seem to have any color... it was just a strange void in the world. I frowned and took a few steps forwards, then shook my head. It had probably just been a small animal. My imagination was running wild again. But the seeds of uneasiness had been planted, and I was nervous.

I continued on my walk.

I could still hear out-of place noises- a misplaced footstep or splash behind me, and an odd skittering noise that sounded like a group of bugs racing over dry leaves.  Every time I glanced behind me, that shadow would race off into the bushes. A couple of times, I saw yellow eyes peering out at me.

It became to much. Fear rose in my chest, threatening to choke me, and before I knew what I was doing I was sprinting away. The skittering noises grew louder behind me, and seemed to grow closer. One thought ran through my head: inside. I had to get inside. It won't be able to follow me inside.

I veered into town and pushed open a random door, skidding to a halt. The door slammed shut behind me and I was left in a darkness so thick that I could barely see. It was cold. Unnaturally cold. I was in a theatre. Behind me, I heard something slam into the door, then all was silent. And then, from the middle of the stage.....
