And no matter the distance tonight like all the others we'll gaze up at the same sky and lay under the same stars.
After all of us had completed the run around the ground, we sat down. Everyone was in groups laughing and chatting. I was sitting alone in a corner with my face in my hands till Cody approached me. He sat down beside me slightly leaning against the wall.
"You know you don't have to babysit me, I am fine." I said while slowly rocking my body back and forth. I turned towards him with my eyebrows quriked.
He scoffed and said,"and leave you like a loser, naah." I shrugged my shoulders and kept a straight face. My eyes scanned the ground, assessing and observing. Being a writer implied being observant, I had to keep my eyes and ears open at all tomes, each glimpse around taught something new, gave a new story.
What I didn't observe was Cody leaning in. I sharply retreated with a jerk which led me to fall, which led him to laugh.
"I mean, ouch!" I exclaimed and Cody helped me get up on my feet.
"You know that the classes don't start till nine - thirty, right." He asked me while I inspected my arms for any scrapes.
"Of course, I did not know." I replied while stretching my legs. My eyes were fixed on Shawn whose hair was still wet from the shower he had just taken. My eyes traced down his body and I couldn't help it. He was all dressed up.
A navy blue button up with ripped denim jeans. His green eyes hidden under sunglasses as he smiled widely.
And..... Heart attack.
He headed over to me but he wasn't looking at me, his eyes were on Cody as he approached us. He smiled and sat down beside Cody.
"What?" Cody snapped. My head jerked towards him as my eyes slightly widened, Cody was glaring at Shawn while Shawn fidgeted under his gaze. He nervously rubbed his nape and sat in silence.
"Cody, we need to talk." Shawn said. Cody turned a deaf ear to him as he stood up. He started walking away leaving Shawn and I alone in eerie silence.
"Hey, Samantha." He said. My knees started trembling as I quickly enclosed the joints in my hands and folded my legs.
"Hey." I shakily whispered. His pupils were still gazing in the direction to which Cody had stormed off.
"What happened between you two?" I asked him with genuine curiosity. Shawn buried his head in his hands and sighed.
"He's mad at me." He said and pouted. An inevitable laugh left my lips as I said to him,"I figured that much. What is he mad about?" I asked.
He looked at me and sighed. "Last night, we had an argument over... Rachel."
Rachel...
An argument over Rachel. Let's pretend this is not crushing my soul and move on.
"So....? You guys are best friends, sort this out." I told him while he slowly nodded and stood up.
"And Shawn, if you need me. I am here." He looked at me and smiled widely.
"Thanks, Sam. You have no idea how much that means to me." I smiled back at him as I tried to stop shaking. My hands were still trembling, my heartbeat had fastened, it was hard to breathe.
I took few breaths to calm myself down.
Rachel. I didn't know much about Rachel. We belonged from two different classes. She belonged from the rich one. She hung out with the rich, snooty kids. Our groups were the ones that would never clash. And so did Shawn. Shawn was way out of my league. He was perfect in every single way and I... I wasn't. I was flawed in every single way.
Time to find Cody.
