Ella decided to act unaffected. She would explain everything to her sister and Lord William. Max will support her and everything will be fine. She stood before William's study, trying to calm her heart.
After 10 minutes of breathing deeply, she pushed the door open. Ella expected to see her sister, Lord William and Max but in front of her was every resident of the mansion. She glared at Lord William. There was no need for everyone else to know.
"Thank you for coming. We have two very serious announcements to make this morning. First we have a killer at large. Today Lady Malcolm was lucid enough to tell us that her kidnappers were not after the Malcolm family. They are targeting anyone who is close to Brady." William looked around the room as if waiting for the news to sink in. It had the desired affect that the kidnapper must have wanted, chaos. Everyone started speaking at once and everyone spoke loudly to be heard.
"Silence! Lady Isabella please be the first to speak, you are our guest here." William gave a stern look to everyone else, as if daring them to defy his orders.
"My sister is my first priority. I will help you in every possible way but I don't think that Gabrielle should leave with you. I can not risk my sister's safety." Isabella said apologically.
"I am a grown woman, I can make my own decisions. Brady is a friend,I am not going to leave him alone." Ella loved her sister dearly but sometimes her sister would become extra protective. If it was up to Bella, she would have covered Gabrielle in cotton balls.
"You are still a child, you don't understand what you are talking about. Let me finish this conversation, we will talk about this when we get home. Go ahead and tell your maid to pack your bag." Isabella dismissed her younger sister.
Ella was angry at her sister. She would still treat her like a child. They were just 2 years apart. Ella longed for freedom and was about to argue some more with her sister when Lord William interupted.
"There is something else that I want you to know. Just so you know that nothing untoward happened. This morning, one of my maids found Max in Gabrielle's room. Even though the maid was strictly forbidden to repeat this incident to anyone, we all know that she will talk. I am sorry I promised to protect your sister but I couldn't. Max went there to make sure that Gabrielle was informed of our return and went to sleep on your sister's bed in his drunken state. I will try my best to fix the damage done by this morning's incident." Ella knew that William would try his best. She was further comforted by the fact that he did not propose marriage as a solution.
"We will marry as soon as we can and then leave for London. Bardy can always contact his father. Ask him to help you, he must be well connected." Max looked at Brandon, as if he expected him to offer all the answers.
It took sometime for Max's statement to sink in but when it did, Ella's blood boiled. How dare he? Arrogant man!
"I refuse to marry you or anyone else. You can't make me. I am not a child that you can bend according to your will. I am done talking to all of." Ella wanted to throw a tantrum, she was looking for a fight. She waited for someone to go againt her but no one did. Instead the conversation continued as if she had not spoken.
"I will talk to my dad later. There's someone else that I can talk to in London. If we get there fast enough, the investigation can begin earlier." Brandon avoided making eye contact with Ella while he spoke.
Being ignored was not something that Ella was expecting so she did the most unexpected thing as well. She stumped her foot multiple times to get everyone's attention.
"Go to your room for now. We will talk over tea. I know everything may seem unfair for now but you will understand me better once we talk. Get some sleep for now." Bella turned to continue her conversation with the others.
Ella was still unwilling to give in. She wanted to fight back but she saw her sister's hunched back, dark circles under her eyes and paleness of her skin. She felt sorry for her sister and decided to give her a chance. Ella would listen to her sister, for now.
I write books on my cellphone and my cellphone just exploded. Any suggestions? I use Android phone.
