Chapter 14

The wedding day was very busy. Everyone rushed from room to room to make sure that everything was perfect. Apart from Mr. Longoria and Lady Amelia, few local figures of importance attended the wedding. The magistrate, constable, few local merchants and another Lord were among them.

Ella felt nauseated and faint. She was not sure if she was excited or dreading the consequences of this wedding. She felt like crying and laughing at the same time. Marriage to a friend was something she preferred to marriage for love but she felt awful for Max. She wanted him to have more. Love was not for her but everyone else deserved to be loved.

Ella knew the consequences of falling in love. Her family has always been unlucky where matters of heart were concerned. Her father had the misfortune of falling in love with her mother and her sister fell for a spineless fool. Ella tried to imagine what kind of person she might have fallen in love with.

She forcefully stopped all morbid thoughts when her sister entered the room. Isabella looked beautiful in a red dress, it accentuated her newly acquired curves. Pregnancy suited her sister well. Ella just hoped that she would look as good as her sister.

"Are you ready?" Isabella asked while looking at Ella from top to toe.

"I will be soon enough. Only hair ornaments are left. You look beautiful sister." Ella hugged her sister tightly.

"I hope you don't mind. I didn't try so hard to steal your spotlight. I want my husband to look at me and see a beautiful woman. Invitations for both of us are rare." Bella hugged her sister back, trying to comfort her through physical contact.

"I love you and I want you to be happy. I could care less about how I look. It's not as if I wanted this marriage to take place." Ella was about to take her seat before the mirror but Bella's strong grip on her arm stopped her.

"I don't care if you want this marriage or not, you will be with Max. You can either spend the rest of your life moping or you can learn to love Max. Learn to live with him, learn his likes and dislikes, learn his behaviour and decide to be by his side at all times. Your life will be so much better if live to learn with what life dealt you. Just keep those promises you will make before God in a few moments." Ella knew in that moment that her sister tried with her husband. Every time she failed, she must have felt so alone. She wanted to give comfort and support but could not find the words.

Instead of saying something that her sister might not want to her she said the only thing that would ease her sister.

"I will pray for you. Life will be easier, you just wait. He will love you and your child enough to give up on all bad habits." Bella smiled and made Ella sit on the stool. She dressed Ella's hair with ornaments and flowers before calling her father to come in. The wedding was about to begin.
