This song was written based on George Orwell's book "1984". The story is about a world where there are cameras and microphones everywhere to monitor what people do, say and even think (Big Brother). A man goes to places were he thinks he cannot be seen and starts reading a book with others, who belong to Τhe Βrotherhood. Later he develops a relationship with a woman who supports him. This is of course illegal and if they get caught they may be sentenced to death, so basically the song is about the couple. Alright I tried to make it simple 😉. You can see what I mean in the lyrics ⬇
Lyrics
Is our secret safe tonight?
And are we out of sight?
Or will our world come tumbling down? Will they find our hiding place?
Is this our last embrace?
Or will the walls start caving in?But it should've been right
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
Let our hearts ignite
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
Are we digging a hole?
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
This is outta controlIt could never last
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
Must erase it fast
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
But it could've been right
(It could be wrong, could be)Love is our resistance
They keep us apart and they won't stop breaking us down
And hold me, our lips must always be sealedIf we live our life in fear
I'll wait a thousand years
Just to see you smile againQuell your prayers for love and peace
You'll wake the thought police
We can hide the truth insideBut it should've been right
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
Let our hearts ignite
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
Are we digging a hole?
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
This is outta controlIt could never last
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
Must erase it fast
(It could be wrong, could be wrong)
But it could've been right
(It could be wrong, could be)Love is our resistance!
They keep us apart and won't stop breaking us down
And hold me, our lips must always be sealedThe night has reached its end
We can't pretend
We must run
We must run
It's time to runTake us away from here
Protect us from further harm
Resistance! To me it has also a second meaning: How many members of the LGBT+ community are still in the closet and afraid to open up about their sexuality or relationships, because, it could be wrong... But it should have been right, they should be accepted for who they are. Whatever it means to you, this song needs to be heard. Lots of love,
Mary ❤
