Chapter sixteen

This morning, Ameena woke up feeling cranky, she had slept badly yesterday night. She kept tossing on the bed after the late night call with Ahmad.

To say she is oblivious of his feelings for her would be the lie of the century.

It didn't help matters that Nadia came close to bedtime and dropped a small bag, saying it was sent by him in the morning. She looked into the bag and spotted a small wrapped box. As she slowly unwrapped it, a gasped escaped her lips when she saw a light blue Tiffany box.

Her heart made double summersaults and she quickly closed the bag as if it contained an explosive.

As she sauntered to the kitchen, she knew her mom had already left for work. Karima was working alone in the kitchen doing her morning chores. She was almost done as there is very little to do in the house.

She sat on the small breakfast table and kept toying with the little box from yesterday.

Karima knew Ameena always makes her own breakfast but she asked anyways.

"Akwai abunda kike so a dafa miki?" (Is there anything you wish to eat)

"No thank you. Am fine."

It never ceased to amaze her how Ameena can stay hungry or go around eating odd things, with all the food around the house. She skipped her meal yesterday night and its almost 11a.m in the morning and she's still saying she's okay.

Heaven knows if it had been her, she would have ate enough food to satisfy ten labourers.

She noticed that Ameena was more interested in the little blue box on the table.

"What's in it?"

"In what?"

"The box, of course."

"I wish I knew."

Now karima was interested. She returned the mopper she was using inside the bucket and dried her hands on her wrapper.

"Is it from the gentleman who was here a day before yesterday?"

Ameena just nodded. This seem to excite her even more as she pulled out a chair and sat leaning in.

"Do you think it contains a ring like the one Ranveer gave Deepika in bachna ae haseeno?"

Although Ameena has no idea who they are, she is sure they are from the endless Indian movies she watches when she is done with work. The thought of a ring sure scares the hell out of her.

"I don't know." she whispered."

And both of them stared at the mysterious box with both of their faces in their palms.

"This is what we will do. You close your eyes while I open the box and I will tell you whatever is inside." She suggested.

"Okay."

Karima slowly lifts the lid and her eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

Ameena waited closed eye for a while. Sensing karima's silence, she asked what was inside. when she failed to get a response, She decides to open her eyes.

She gaped at the content which also rendered her speechless.

Inside was the most beautiful diamond bracelet she had ever seen in her life.  There are four gemstone charms attached to the delicate diamond and rose gold chain. There is a heart shaped ruby, a star shaped topaz, a round emerald and a diamond shaped amethyst. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

"Wow..." Was all that karima could manage as she slowly turned the bracelet in her hands.

"It looks expensive." she whispered
