I pet his fur
as his purs
vibrated my fingertips.
I watched his ears twitch,
his eyes squint
as he fell asleep.
I admired his paws,
polished toe beads.
Soft,
but he never lets me touch them.
I felt his exhilaration,
as he watched the bird
in the windowsill.
I saw him squint at me,
while I set patiently,
when he felt safe.
Then I wondered:
Why can't I be a cat too?
