Luna's P.O.V
I sat on the top of the hood of my black 68 Chevy with my best friend Ellie. I had parked on the top of the hill and we were looking down at the city. It was just after sunset and the lights were just starting to turn on in the city. The view was breathtaking and I couldn't think of anyone better to share it with. Ellie was the love of my life in a completely platonic way. We had been sitting here for a good few hours, we like to go here together when times are tough. I looked to Ellie. Her sapphire blue eyes sparkled in the very faint moon light. Small strands of her long auburn hair danced around in the soft breeze. Her face was tranquil as she gazed upon the very few dim stars that were already out. I looked at the stars too. Sometimes you just needed to take time to look at the simple things, because sometimes, the most beautiful things are the most simplest. That's what my mother used to tell me when she was alive. She died when I was fourteen in a water rafting trip, saving me. It was just us. We went out in the morning as a little mother daughter trip, we were pretty close. Anyways, we were going down the rapid when a storm hit, we couldn't turn back. We were about to crash into some large rocks when she quickly dived in front of me to prevent me dying, we could not have moved out of the way, we were both going to die, so she sat in front of me and she got smashed into the rocks instead of both of us. She died slowly. I got some injuries, but not fatal ones. Not a day goes by when I don't miss her, but in out darkest moments, we find something, something that keeps us going. Ellie keeps me going in this dark world, but without darkness, there would be no stars and Ellie is my stars."Do you wanna get going and stay at mine tonight?" Ellie asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I stayed at her house more than my own. To be completely honest, her house is more of a home to me than my actual one. You see, after my mum died, my dad became an alcoholic and abusive. At first, my naive mind thought he only hit me because he was drunk. Turns out it wasn't, he hit me when he's sober too. I think he blamed me for mums death, I think I do too. If she hadn't jumped in front, maybe she would still be alive.
"Luna?" Ellie said, snapping her fingers in front of my face, bringing me out of my thoughts that I had fallen back into.
"Um, yeah, I would love to stay the night." I answered. Even I could tell that my voice sounded numb with a hint of sadness to it.
"Oh hun, I know it's rough, but you'll get through it, we always do." She said, consoling me. She shuffled along the hood over to me and wrapped her arms around me. I shoved my head in her shoulder and wrapped my arms around her too. The fabric of her hoodie muffled the slight sobs that escaped me.

"Okay, well it's getting late, we should head home." I said as slowly detangled myself from her. She looked up at me, her eyes were always a magnificent colour right now, it was like a whiskey brown, but it looked like how a glass of whiskey would with the sun shinning through. They were truly amazing, but they never really stayed the same colour. It was weird, but they were always an amazing shade, her eyes would either be this amazing whiskey brown colour, forest green with one or two flecks of brown or candy apple green. It was always amazing. Even in times like now, when she's upset and her eyes had unshed tears in them, they still looked beautiful. She nodded her head in response. It messed her short, wavy black hair up a little."Do you want me to drive?" I asked. I didn't really think she should be driving in her given state. She nodded and fished her keys out of the pocket of her baggy hoodie. She passed them over to me and hopped off the hood of the car.
"Make sure you don-"
"Yes, I know, don't crash your baby. You have an obsession with this car." I butted in. This car was her pride and joy. She was a little over protective of it. She smiled at me and got into the passenger seat. I put the keys in the ignition and pulled out of where we had parked with caution. If I scratched this car, she would kill me.
"Do you wanna listen to some jams?" I asked with a smirk on my face. She smirked back and turned on the radio. 'Night moves' by Bob Seger. I looked to Luna. Her eyes held euphoria for this was one of her favourite songs. She turned up the radio even more. She started to sing along and I did too.
I was a little too tall
Could've used a few pounds
Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black-haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high
Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Tryin' to make some front page drive-in news
Workin' on our night mo-
"What? Why did the music stop...?" Luna asked.
"No idea..." I replied. She reached out to the radio when a horrible static siren alarm erupted from the radio. It was the global panic siren. What's going on?!
"Hello, I am Renée Middleton. I am interrupting this broadcast to report breaking news. The CDC has reported a global outbreak. Reports of people turning rabid and cannibalistic. They have gained inhuman strength, they do not speak, only groan, their flesh is rotting and the infection is spread through bites. Proceed extreme caution, get indoors and barricade everything. The only way to kill them is by either stabbing the head, shooting the head or beheading. This is a cause
for global panic. Stock up on supplies." The woman on the radio said. After that the radio cut out into static. I looked to Luna. Her face was written with trepidation."Did she just practically say that the zombie apocalypse was upon us...?" Luna whispered, her voice laced with disquiet. My throat and mouth was dry.
"...Yes."
