Affection comes in many shapes, forms, sizes, and types.
Affection for a friend comes in the little things you do every day for them. The unspoken thank you's and the wordless praise. They accept you for who you really are, and you do the same. You take time out of your day to listen to their problems, help them after hangovers, and be the shoulder that they cry on from time to time.
Affection for your family comes in the words that go unspoken. Just like your friends but...deeper. After all, you do only have one mother and father, the people that would give everything that they had and more to make sure that you were safe and got everything that you needed. Remember when you were a kid, and you would roll your eyes and groan under your breath? You'll eventually come to realize that those two people that you loathed for so long really have been your biggest supporters after all. From little league baseball to college graduation, from getting engaged to buying your first house - you've had your own number one fan club (of which their have been two club leaders) the whole time.
Then their is affection for the people that you love. No words can begin to describe the emotions that go along with the feelings. Blood may be thicker then water, but not all family has to come from the same place. You know them inside and out, and would give your life for them without even thinking twice. Some come in the form of a best friend that has become so close that you would call them your brother or sister, while others come in the kind of relationship that you would want to punctuate with a ring. These people are the soul of your life, and give meaning to everything that you do.
So I ask - what kind of affection do you have for me? Is it the kind that you would give your best friend that you've known since birth, or could I disappear from your life and you wouldn't even blink an eye?
Chances are, you think of me as the latter, while I think of you as the former.
