Trail to Nirvana

Chapter 1:We Leave

"Hey, Haley!" Sarah, my best friend, yelled for me. We were walking out of Georgia Middle School. I looked behind me. She was waving her hands around. I smiled and stopped. When she got caught up with me, she handed me a compass.

"What's this?" I asked, cocking my head up.

"Remember?" she raised her eyebrow. I was about to answer, but my other best friend, Ryan was coming up to us and also, waving his hands around.

"Sarah! Haley!" his voice was really high. Sarah and I met him halfway.

"And what do you need?" Sarah said, taking the books from him.

"Tonight! Finally we get to do it!" his smile was really wide.

I thought for a bit, then looked at the compass.

"Oh, yeah!" I said to myself.

They both looked at me with a weird look on his faces, but ended up laughing.

"Guys, come on." I said, starting to run to our neighborhood.

When we got to my house, we ran in.

"Mom! I'm home!" I yelled.

I ran into the kitchen and grabbed the empty backpack on the counter. I threw six granola bars in it and three "mini milks" and threw the back pack to Sarah. She zipped her backpack open, threw three pocket knives in and the compass. Then she handed it to Ryan, who threw in three pencils, three journals, and flip notes. He threw it back to me. I went into the living room, grabbed two big, light blankets and a really big pillow. We were set by now. I set the backpack by the door, and went up to my room, Ryan and Sarah following. When we got in my room, I closed the door and turned on my-super-slow-and-dumb-computer.

"Haley, yesterday I found out what diseases we can get from this trip, but I brought the things that could help avoid it." Ryan said, pulling out these papers from his backpack. They were filled with words and math problems.

"Math problems? Why?"

He handed me a different paper.

"this is what you need to read." he said, handing me a different paper from the pile.

"wow, Ryan this is-"

"Uh Haley, I mean...yeah Haley, your dads here we better-"

"go get the bag somebody we have to scram now!!"

I was stuffing the papers in Ryan's backpack and zipping it up. I was freaking out and before I knew it, Sarah was upstairs with the backpack and we didn't know where to go. Before I knew it, Sarah was out the window and I was too, along with Ryan. I heard my dad come into my room.

"WHERE IS SHE?!" he yelled. I could hear him flipping over chairs and

things.

"Daniel, she's gone, she doesn't want to d-" my mom's voice started.

"No, it's time she can not l-"

"Let's go downstairs..." and they were gone.

Then I turned to Sarah. I could feel my tears.

"I'm so sorry, Haley." she hugged me.

"We should go before-" Ryan started but never finished.

"Yeah..." I said, sliding off the roof. And they followed....
