“I’m sorry Mrs. Kane, your daughter has cancer,” Dr. Mincu said. Those words made Alex’s mom shed a tear. Alex is her oldest daughter and one of the kindest teenagers you will ever meet. In Her high school, she is known as “Sunshine” Alex.  She always is and the happiest girl in her high school.  She is known for her dark brown hair and he teal beanie, these were her signatures. But, when she hears this news “Sunshine “Alex isn’t going to be “Sunshine” Alex anymore.  Alex sat in the navy vinyl chair and focused on the boring gray carpet while she waited for her mother.

Her mom came out with an upset look on her face. She looked pale. She didn’t know what to say to her daughter.

“So how’d it go am I healthy?” Alex asked. Her mom just gave her a frown and fell onto the chair with a dull thud.

“So it was bad, huh?” Alex sighed putting her hair in a ponytail then rubbing her hands together.

“Okay, mom, I can take it.”

“You have cancer,” she slurred.

“Yohav is a dancer?” she asked.

“You have cancer!” her mom yelled. Those 3 words had Alex in shock.

“Is it ……….is it bad?”

“The doctors said a little. God, I’m so scared,” her mom put her face in her hands and started to cry soft quiet sobs.

“I know you’re upset, but just….”

“No No No! Upset is when crazy Twilight fans finds out Bella disses Jacob for a pale vampire. Upset is when they cancel my shows for stupid football games or baseball or whatever. This is a family crisis. We’re having a crisis!” She said waving her hands constantly.

Alex grabbed her mom’s hands.

“Listen to me mom, we will not let this stop us from cherishing life that god has brought upon us. I will fight, we will fight. We will never give up on life, just because I have cancer doesn’t mean we automatically quit. Mom, don’t cry we will get through with this, I promise.”

She put her hands onto her mother’s to comfort her. Her mother sniffled; reached for a tissue to dry her tears.  “Oh, mom, don’t worry, we can go home and watch Charlie brown. He always makes us smile.” Although Alex was the one who was sick she somehow still had the power to make her mother feel better about the situation.

“Yeah,” Alex’s mom chuckled. They walked out of the hospital with confidence.
