Alex got up a little earlier than usual. She got ready to tackle the day. But when, she opened the door her little sister had her arms crossed.

“You had cancer and you didn’t tell me?!”

“Well I had to save you from being hurt, I though you wouldn’t understand.”

“Hurt? It hurts me more to see that my own sister doesn’t even trust her own sister. I understand very well that you have cancer and just because I’m little and I’m in 3rd grade doesn’t mean you have to treat me like I’m five.”

“Ok, Ok, I’m sorry jeez!” Alex said

“You should be. Now if you excuse me, Arthur’s on at 7.”

Alex rolled her eyes and closed the bedroom door. She took a few bites of a muffin and ran out of the house. It was a breezy morning with seven inches of snow on the ground. Although it was hard to walk in she had waited for snow long enough and was happy that it finally came.  Alex met her best friend Marceline on the corner who saw her wearing the wig.

“Alex why are you wearing a wig?” Marceline asked chewing her gum.

“Well I wasn’t going to tell you this, but I have cancer.” Alex replied

Marceline swallowed her gum whole.

“So are you getting tested or what?”

“I’ve already been tested and have started a treatment program.”

“What will Caleb say?”

Caleb was Alex’s other best friend. They always loved playing video games together. They had been best friends since kindergarten. Caleb always had been there for Alex.

When she was about to reply, Caleb showed up.

“Hey guys, nine more days left until Christmas woo! Woo!” Caleb cheerfully said

“Yeah, heh,”Alex said

“What’s wrong?”

“I?”

“She has cancer,” said Marceline finishing her sentence.

“Marceline?!”

“God I’m sorry, Ally. If there anything I can do to make you feel better,” Caleb said

“It would make me feel better if we didn’t talk about this anymore.”

They all stayed quiet as they walked up the steps to the school. When they went to homeroom, Caleb broke the silence.

“So, Alex, are we still up for downtown on Saturday?”

“Totally, we have everything planned. My schedule is open.” Except for a short appointment later today, other than that I’m up for it.”

“Sweet.”

“You are so brave for coming to school. If I was you I would stay home because it would be too depressing.”

“Well, I’m brave.”

“That’s what I always loved about you,” Caleb said

“What?”

“Liked, I meant liked.”

She giggled.  They all waited for the final bell for school to be over.  The clock struck 2:45 and every teen busted out; No School! They all cheered and danced their hearts out. As for the 3 friends, they peacefully walked out of the school with happy faces.

“I may have cancer, but I sure love when I have a break from school.”

“Me too!” Marceline cried

“This is so awesome. It’s snowing outside, it’s almost Christmas. Everything is ok. Alex I absolutely positively completely sure that you’re gonna kick cancer in the cheek,” Caleb gracefully spoke as he hi-fived Alex.

“Yeah, Alex, this is probably going to be a temporary thing. It’s not gonna last.”

“Thanks you guys.” They both hugged and went their separate ways.

“Oh, remember, Downtown on Saturday.”

“I will” Alex chuckled.  She ran to her house, but then almost passed out. “That was weird” she said, and went on with her day. At home her sister and her mother decorating the tree.

“Mom, it’s beautiful.” she said touching the funky ornaments

“Hey it was my idea to decorate the tree today. I’m helping too!” her sister shouted.

“It’s beautiful, Lily” she smiled messing up Lily’s hair.

“This is going to be the best Christmas ever. Alex will be cured by….something. I guarantee it!”  Lily said mocking the guy from the suit commercials.  Alex and her mom just laughed.
