sixty-seven hours until mary-kate's flight to new york.
it was all she could think about, actually. besides the fact that a total stranger wouldn't stop talking to her. she didn't mind the company, though. she actually thought he was pretty cute.
"what are you going to do in new york?" she asks, loud enough so only he heard. there weren't much people in the terminal at this time of night. most of the people who'd been here before was either on their flight or went off somewhere else. which only left them two, the few other people and the people at the other side of the desks.
"just going to see some of my family for the holidays," he shrugs. "i go every year. it's nothing special, really."
mary-kate nods, tapping her foot on the white-tiled floor. she wanted to tell him that she was going to new york, too. she didn't even know why it was such a problem to tell him, anyway. she just thought that telling him would lead to questions. questions that she wouldn't want to answer.
"i've seen you around here sometimes before." nash says, regaining her attention. "a few months back, last year and the year before that." he scratches his temple. "i've noticed you every time. it was only this time that i actually had the balls to sit next to you." he chuckles nervously.
she smiles, even though he couldn't see her. "yeah, i've seen you, too."
he purses his lips, nodding his head and trying not to stare at her. she was already weirded out by his stares; but it wasn't even like he could stop himself from
doing so. she was gorgeous, that's what he thought. it was quite difficult for them to think of things to say to each other; and they both didn't want for it to be so awkwardly quiet between them."uh," nash stammers, tapping his fingertips on his knee nervously. mary-kate twists her lips, hoping what whatever he'd say would lead to a conversation. she smiled to herself unwillingly.
"yes?" she laughs, trying to catch his attention again.
his lip twitches, and he bats his eyes simultaneously whilst trying to remember what he was about to say to her. she raises her eyebrows of concern, forcing a smile to curve onto her lips.
"i, i-just-" he stutters, failing to find the correct words to put into a sentence. "i wanted to know, uh,"
she purses her lips into a thin line, trying to hold back the laughs that were threatening to come out. she didn't want to laugh at him; but he made that oddly difficult.
"do i make you nervous or something?"
she never liked the thought of anyone being nervous of talking to her, or at least trying to. she wanted to make everyone feel comfortable around her. she hated when someone was "scared" of talking to her.
"n-no."
she purses her lips and nods, staring back down at her hands whilst fiddling with them. she really wanted to connect with nash, and she knew that he wanted to connect with her, also. but they made that almost impossible.
"talk to me, nash." she says, turning to face him. he tried not to look at her, because he knew that if he did he would stop staring at her; admiring her features. but he looked at her anyway. and he didn't regret it. "empty out your mind to me."
he adored the way she spoke dearly, the way her voice made things just sound better, if that even made any sense, he thought. the way that the words she said rolled off her tongue was inimitable, he was amazed.
nash smiled, flickering his eyes from each of hers simultaneously. there were billions of random things strolling through his mind, every second of the day. and he always knew that no one would even care about half the things he'd have to say. so the fact that she wanted to know caught him off-guard.
mary-kate raises her eyebrows at nash, waiting for him to say something. he chuckles, running his fingers through his shiny, brown hair that she almost envied him for.
"t-there's a lot of random shit roaming my mind, mk." he says, more to himself than to her. she laughed, noticing the nickname he'd created for her.
"i'm willing to listen,"
