All of my muscles tensed up as if coiled, ready for an attack. She smelled of strawberries and everything sweet. The scent of her entire being made my throat burn more than any human's blood has. I couldn't sit there without plugging my nose. If I even got one more whiff of her I would kill her there on the spot. She glanced over in my direction and saw my hostile stare digging into her skull, and she began to blush. I could hear the blood rushing through her body at an above-average rate. I wanted at least one taste, but I wouldn't be able to stop when I started consuming the thick red clots of fluid. As she was walking she faltered on a book in the walkway. She must me clumsy, making her an easy target. "NO! STOP IT EDWARD!" I yelled to myself. I wasn't going to ruin my record now. Not by one silly girl. Mr. Banner pointed to the stool next to me where Bella was supposed to sit. I don't know how I was handling this so well. A couple months ago if it were anyone else I would've been at their throat in a matter of seconds. But, for some reason, a big part of me didn't want to see her harmed at all. I didn't want to see her even bump into a wall with the fear of her bruising.
As she took the seat next to me, the smell got more heavy. Easier to define. Strawberries, like I had caught before, but something else too. Something like what a cake smells like when you first take it out of the oven. Her aroma made my mouth water and fill with venom. If I was going to survive this class I was going to have to sit as far from her as possible. So, ever so slightly, I shifted my weight as distant from her as I could manage. The perfume of her skin and blood was still as potent as before. She started smelling her hair and when she let it go, a ginormous gust came past my nose. She was so delectable smelling.
The entire period was dedicated to cellular anatomy, which I had already studied at least 20 times by now, so I focused on not killing Bella. I never unwound my position on the very edge of my stool in fear I would spring at her instinctively. I squeezed my hands into balls at my sides, stopping myself from reaching for her. The excruciating pain and burning never resisted or settled. It only got progressively worse as the class droned on. How I was going to survive this I didn't know, the only thing keeping me from ditching class was the fact that I didn't want to leave her side. Bella was almost like a magnet. Because I couldn't hear her thoughts made me want to talk to her and learn everything about her. Why she took notes on stuff we hadn't even begun to talk about yet. How she could put up with the rainy weather after being in Arizona all of her life. Also I couldn't leave the astounding scent of her in fear I'd never get to experience it again.
I kept my eyes on Bella's face the entire hour. Longing to extract her thoughts. That's when she looked at me. Her dark, chocolate, brown eyes meeting with mine. Her beauty was unimaginable. No one was ever this noticeable to me before. Everyone in Forks and everywhere I've traveled couldn't compare to person I was looking at now. That was when I realized I was still glaring at her as if she was a lamb and I was a wolf. Waiting for her to slip up so I could catch her in the side. Fear and regret shot through her facial expressions as she quickly turned her head away from me. I must look like a monster in her eyes. Which I should. I am a monster. A blood thirsty beast in the body of a god like man.
When the bell rang, I rose out of my seat and was out the door before the rest of the students were even done closing their textbooks.
I had to tell the others. Nothing has like this has ever happened, but first I needed to get out of that biology class. I couldn't stay there anymore. I would kill her if I didn't transfer. So it was decided, after 7th hour I'd go down to the office and get put into chemistry for that period. That way Bella and I both don't get hurt.
Unlike the period before, this one seemed to pass by in only a half hour. The class was being dedicated to review from the last chapter so I, once again, was allowed to drift into other's thoughts. Some were thinking about how infuriated their parents would be when they had to reveal to them the D on the test they studied hours for. Others about the upcoming prom. And soon enough the bell rang it's annoying buzz. I dashed to the office fully prepared to persuade the secretary into changing my schedule.
"Good afternoon, I have a request," I stated as I stalked into the small office.
"How may I be of assistance Mr. Cullen?"
"I'd like to be taken out of 6th period Biology with Mr. Banner please," I flashed her a smile and saw her shift in her chair. This was going to be easy.
"I'm terribly sorry Mr. Cullen, all classes are filled. I'm afraid you're going to stay in Mr. Banner's class," she apologized. I could read the a regret on her face. She wished she could change my schedule.
That's when Bella walked in. I didn't even have to turn around to know it was her. The wind carried in the astounding aroma that was Bella Swan. My back went rigid and I clenched my jaw to stop a growl from escaping my lips. It wasn't a big enough movement for Bella to notice. It wasn't until another girl came in that I got the strong waft of her fragrance. Then my whole back tensed up. There was no way she didn't see it, so I slowly turned around and shot her a glare. It was easier for her to think I was mad than in pain. I needed to get out of here.
"Never mind then. I can see that it's impossible. Thank you so much for your help," with that I turned on my heels and walked hastily out of the building.
The earthy air gave me a sense of relief. Again my brothers and sisters were waiting for me in and around the Volvo. As i ambled over to the car I was hit with a series of questions. Mainly by Rosalie who was being over precautious as usual.
"What took you so long Edward? We've been waiting here for almost 10 minutes!" screeched Rosalie.
"Calm down Rose, I was just going to see if I could change my classes. That's all."
"How come?" questioned Alice.
"I'll tell everyone at home. Let's go."
With that everyone climbed in the car and I drove us all home, Bella on my mind the whole time.
