Chapter One: Graduation
Paige's POV
I look at my reflection in my bathroom mirror, my brown hair was in soft curls that flowed down the front of my dress, a creamy, white strapless dress.
"Paige! Are you ready yet? We're leaving in about five minutes!" My mom shouted from the bottom of the stairs. I inhaled deeply and looked at my reflection once more before leaving my bathroom and going down the stairs, my heels clicking on the mahogany floor boards.
My mom and dad were waiting for me at the bottom.
"Oh darling, you look beautiful!" My mother gushed as she held her arms out. I gave a small smile and hugged her.
My dad smiled warmly and led me outside and into the car. I pulled the material from my dress inside the door as it was shut. My dad pulled out of the drive way and out the front gates. My mom began rambling about all the mothers that will be at my schools graduation and how we will have to make a very good impression.
Out of the corner of my eye, a shadow was watching, but when I looked to see what it was, it was gone. Probably just a figment of my imagination.

We pulled into the school's car park. So many people were here, the graduates were wearing beautiful dresses or a tux, as was everybody else but the graduating students stood out, with red cap's and robe's. We got out of the car and I said goodbye to my mom and dad as they went to find seats in the school's drama theater. I pushed my way through a large crowd of students, trying to find my friends.
I managed to get pushed to the edge of the crowd, I gave up trying to find my friends and stood in the corner on my phone. The graduation wouldn't be starting for another hour, so I guess that could be why my friends aren't here yet...
I began to feel like someone was watching me, when I looked up I looked up, my eyes searched from one side of the crowd to the other, I met someone's eyes, dark blue ones. I looked at the face they belonged too and blushed. Shit. Carter Mead. I immediately looked away and looked down. Carter was 'popular', and I tried to avoid people like that. Oh and he was a boy, I have no idea how to talk to one, or act, or anything.
He walked over to me and stood right in front of me. After a couple of seconds I looked up, he obviously wasn't going away.
"Hi..?" Really Paige? That came off as a question! Carter chuckled, well at least he found it funny.
"Hey" He leant his back against the wall beside me.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, by why are you here?"
"Well it's graduation" He chuckled again and I inwardly face palmed.
"No, I mean here, like, next to me, here"
He smiled at me. "Because, your standing here all alone, and it's way to crowded in between all..... that" gesturing to the other students.
"Yeah.. but- wait, why though, I don't think we've actually had a conversation since... Never, actually" He laughed
"Because it's the last time might see each other, and I love your dress by the way." I felt my face heat up
"Thanks" I looked down.
"Hey, let's start over and pretend that we have just met"
A confused look fell on my face
"We basically have just met" I looked up at his face, a smile had been spread across it."Please?"
"Ok.." He turned to face me directly and held out his hand for me shake "I'm Carter."
"Paige" I smiled back shyly and shook his hand.
