Finals Day: Six days before graduation.

Poet:

Hon'yomi waited outside the headmaster's office, silently wondering why he had asked to see her. There were, of course, a number of reasons as to why, but she hoped none of them were directly related to her.

The black cushion of the chair clung to her equally black skirt making her feel trapped. It was an unusual feeling, she'd never felt trapped at Hope's Peak before. Instead she'd always felt free to live her life and make new friends...and boy had she made some new friends...

"Nakajima?" A soft voice she recognized as the secretary's called her name.

Hon'yomi swiftly stood and entered the reception area. She briskly brushed past the secretary and entered directly into Headmaster Kirigiri's office.

"Good afternoon."

She settled into the chair in front of his desk. "Afternoon." She placed her hands in her lap and willed her legs not to bounce, she was struck with curiosity.

"I'm sorry to have called you from your class." Jin Kirigiri rubbed his brow, looking as though he was stressed. She was quite certain that he was. After all the things that had happened this year alone...and then with the most recent events...she was surprised he hadn't shut the school down.

"I want to ask you something." He looked at his student warily, like he didn't want to ask.

Trying to keep her face blank, a cold sweat drenched Hon'yomi. This was going to be much more serious than she had thought. "Okay."

"Why did you come to Hope's Peak?"

Her frown of confusion was immediate.

"I don't mean the invitation, but your choice. Your answer. Why did you say yes?" Kirigiri looked at her intently, but she didn't feel like she was being interrogated...more like she was being ruled out.

"Headmaster, you know my answer. I've told you this before." Hon'yomi's mind rushed in circles. "Why are you asking me this when I'm clearly not the person whose answer you're interested in?"

A glimpse of surprise danced across his face but quickly dissipated. "With what's been going on, I can never be too sure." Suddenly his composure seemed to crumbled. "Do you think anyone in your class could've been apart of what's happened?"

Hon'yomi paused, the faces of her classmates blinking across her mind. "No one in my class is apart of what's been happening." She spoke truthfully and from her heart. She didn't believe any of them were capable of something so horrific.

The Headmaster relaxed a little and nodded. "I believe you. But know this, as the 76th class it's up to you all to-" He didn't get to finish his sentence. He never would.

The sound of an explosion tore through his office, and the building trembled in response. Hon'yomi gripped the arms of the chair and widened her eyes. "What was-?"

Another, much closer, knocked a picture over on his desk and made her ears ring.

Jin stood, a look of fear and...a sense of knowing, on his face. "Stay here."

She began to rise from the chair, "But-"

"Hon'yomi."

She fell back into the chair in shock.

Without another word he made his way towards the office door, opened it in one motion, and disappeared.

She waited five minutes, then ten. Hon'yomi paced around the room, arms crossed. What was happening? What had...exploded? Different scenarios and possibilities shattered her composure. She needed to know.
