I toss and turn for hours trying to sleep, but it's like something is actually forcing me awake. Annoyed I get out of bed and head to the kitchen to get some water.
As I'm taking a sip I start to feel paranoid. I quickly check the doors to make sure they are still locked and return to my room nervously. I need to get some sleep before I go absolutely crazy, I think to myself.
I do a quick little shimmy to shake this strange feeling that has overcome me and notice the sound of my Jack in the Box being wound up.
I've had that Jack in the Box since I was 5 years old. I've loved it so much. It has a small hook inside where you can release Jack from his Box and play with him as a dolly. My friend Isaac would come over and we would play with the little Jack in the Box all day long. Not long after I quit contacting Isaac he was found murdered after being proven guilty for the murder of multiple innocent women. He had disturbingly turned them all into furniture. I put the Jack in the Box in my closet after hearing that.
I don't think I can shake anything at this point except my confidence. I slowly walk over to my closet, trembling. I squeeze my eyes shut as I grab the door knob. I'm crying at this point. I know this is the end.
I open the door to find my once colorful Jack in the Box now dull and full of grey tones. The lid is open and the handle is spinning. The music has stopped and has been replaced with a loud laughter. The worst part is that the little Jack dolly is missing. Not on the floor or just not popped up, but actually gone.
I feel a hand cover my mouth and another turn me around. I slightly screech but am quickly stopped when I see the figure hovering over me. It's Jack. He too now full of blacks and greys. He has gone from cackling to giggling. A tear escapes my eye and drips onto his hand.
"Awww. Don't be so scared!" He laughs, "It'll all be over soon and you can join ol' Isaac!"
The cackling begins again. I squeeze my eyes shut, praying that when I open them Jack will be gone. I'm starting to feel that prayers don't work because he is ten times closer to my face when I open them. The last thing I see are Jack's dull black eyes before EVERYTHING goes black.
