Black and Gray

"You see Jessica, this house is a piece of art." Mom opened her arms wide and smiled.

"It certainty looks like the inspiration to Tim Burton’s films.” I murmured.

“What do you think?” Mom asked. Her intentions written all over her face. She was using the whole Your-mother-loves-it-make-her-happy look. Well no, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. This house reaks of old and disgusting and it honestly gives me the creeps. If the outside looks this bad I cannot imagine what the inside will look like.

“Do you really want me to be honest?” My mother nodded. Wrong answer mother.

“A rat hole is just as artistic. Of course if you find the whole Old-and-creepy look artistic that is.” I said as I gave the house another look.

“I really try, but reasoning with you is nearly impossible.” My mother gave me a last look and walked inside the house.

I looked and my father and he looked at me disappointed.

“What? I’m a teenager going through puberty! Besides she asked for my honest opinion and you guys taught me not to lie, ever. Remember?”

He didn’t say a word he just shook his head and walked in. I followed.

I wasn’t wrong, I would’t be surprised if this house has been used to film scary movies before because it looks super scary and depressing.

Everything inside is black or gray, not chick black and gray.

"Welcome, Ms. Montgomery. Would you like a tour around the house?" An old man with an English accent and very well dressed asked me. I suppose he is probably the butler or something like that. I wouldn't be surprised since this house is so big.

"Thank you, Mr.- um" I hesitated since I did not know his name.

"Robert, my name is Robert. I'm the Vanderblit Mansion's butler. It is my pleasure to serve you." That was officially the longest introduction I've ever heard.

"Well, Robert thank you but we're gonna have to leave the grand tour for another day. Can you please take me to my room?" Seriously like I would want to see more of this house. Man, they wanted me to cry.

"This is your room Ms.Montgomery." We were standing in front of a door. "The room has your bags inside, everything was fixed before your arrival and the maids are always around you can just call them or me if you ever need anything." I nodded and thanked Robert.

I opened the door. I was ready to get slapped in the face with the horrible circumstances that I was going to be living in during the week.

To my surprise and to my mothers triumph the room was awesome. It was decorated in an old fashion fashionable way. If that makes any type of sense. What made me the happiest was that the room was composed of more than two colors. Finally. I’m pretty sure my mother had everything to do with. That slick woman.

I jumped on the king bed and laid there for few minutes before remembering that my laptop was still packed away.

I took it out and to my utter surprise there was wifi. “Incredible.” was all I could say. Who knew old people used wifi.

I went on facebook just to see if anything has changed back home. Not that I was a supporting cast member of keeping up with the Kardashians, there is never that much drama in my life and much less in such little periods of time, I mean I’ve only been away for 6 hours. What could happen.

Unfortunately the best party of the year was happening. “Tomorrow.” I shouted in annoyance. “Kill me now.”

I turned off my laptop and decided that a haunted house tour was more amusing than to mop around all day.

Just when I was about to open the door someone knocked. “Who is it?”

“Ms. Montgomery may I come in?” It was a female with a faint English accent. Her voice sounded young.

I opened the door and there she was. A tall girl maybe 5’7 with long brown hair, light hazel eyes, well structured face and an incredibly pointy nose. A little to pointy. She was no older than 18. Maybe. “Hi, I’m Katherine. I’m Robert’s granddaughter.” She smiled warmly.

“Oh, Hi call me Jessica. Ms. Montgomery is too formal.” I smiled back at her.

“Are you enjoying your stay?” She asked her smile never leaving her face.

“As much as I possibly can. So do you live here?” I asked her.

She nodded. “I had to move with my grandfather when I was 10. I came to America and I’ve been here ever since.” She shrugged. “No wonder there is WI-FI.” I said louder than I meant. She looked at me confused.

“Why did you move?” I asked her. “My parents died in a car accident and I only had my grandfather. So here I am.” She smiled again.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” She shoock her head. “I’ts ok. I’ve heard you still haven’t received a tour around the house. Are you up for it?”

“Yeah, why not.” She smiled grabbed me by the arm and we started out tour.

I gave up on it five minutes later. Not only because I had no interess in the house but also because she gave me a mini biography about everything inside it. Apparently the house is the oldest one in the whole state. Not a surprise to me, obviously. The house has a lot of historical value and blah blah blah. Yup that is literally what I started to hear after a while. Unfortunately the house is too big which means there is so much I still haven’t seen.

I noticed she missed a spot. “What about there? What’s behind that door?” I asked filled with curiosity.

“We cannot go there. My grandfather says is forbidden. I’m sorry” She said looking away from the door and straight at me.

“But do you know what’s in there?” I asked her trying to get information out of her. “No, I’ve never been in there. Nor do I want to it’s forbidden for a reason.” I nodded at what she said but that doesn't mean that because it was forbidden or that the word “forbidden” was going to stop me. As if!.

“You know I’m kind of hungry.” I said rubbing my belly and it wasn’t a lie I was starving.

“Great, come lets go to the kitchen.” She practically dragged me there. I never seen a person so excited to tour around a house. For real.

“Hello, Mr and Mrs Montgomery.” Katherine said to my inconsiderate parents.

“Hello father, Hello mother.” I said in mocking manner.

“Hi Katherine.” My mother said and ignored me. Whatever. My father just nodded.

“So what can I eat?
