"It was quite weird how we became friends," He laughed as he rubbed the back of his neck with his hands, and though his dimples showed with his smile, his heart broke at the mention of her. She held a special place in his heart, and now...she was gone. "I don't think I'll ever forget it."
He'd watched her sit alone at recess in elementary, humming and swinging her feet, but she was content with that. He'd seen her miss school for a week at a time.
He'd watched her walk through the halls of the nearby secondary school, wincing as she was shoved aside by stray shoulders and backpacks. She was still content with being alone, but the smile became less realistic as each day passed. She began to miss school for several weeks at a time.
He'd watched her walk from the back of the high school, hood up, eyes downcast and lifeless, and she no longer enjoyed being alone. She wasn't very happy anymore. He never did get to see the rest of high school, and was terrified that she no longer walked among the rest of us.
Eventually though, she started to slip from his mind, as each day got busier and busier, but there were some songs he felt were for her, ones that whenever he'd sing, he'd sing them for her, and some things that would trigger the memory of her.
