Lunch was better than I had expected it to be. Heidi and I sat and chatted with the expected stares of the other students digging into our backs. We talked about boys, even though I had never actually met one before, and we talked about classes that I enjoyed most, even though I really didn't like any of them, and lastly, we talked about where I had been for the past many years. So, I told her. I told her everything. I told her about when the malfunction happened, when I lived in the forest, when I was found, and the past months living in the testing facility with Shade and my good friend Hazmat.
Heidi sat and listened intently, her eyes appropriately widening in surprise at the right times and her inquisitive looks telling me about the different parts she didn't understand. All too soon, lunch was over and we had to leave. By this point, we were alone in the lunch room; everyone had gone to class. She left me to myself and I was escorted to my next class by Mr. Chase. When I got to class, everyone was in the room, but the teacher wasn't in the room, so I had some time to myself to prepare for the torment of other students and the teacher. However, I wasn't expecting someone to actually come up to me and speak. A snarky looking girl with a full head of fiery red hair walked up to my desk and leaned on it, he cleavage nearly popping out of her shirt. I could automatically tell this girl was someone no one wanted to mess with, especially when it came to social issues. She popped her gum loudly and glared at me as if I killed her prissy little purse dog, "Hey." she growled. I quirked an eyebrow at her, but didn't say anything. She popped her gum again and rolled her eyes, "I said 'hey.'" She even sounded snarky with her damn attitude. I hadn't known her for even five minutes and she was already pissing me off.
"What do you need?" I asked, trying to be as kind as one could with someone such as this. I really didn't like her, and I wasn't about to be all nice to her with the way she spoke to me, but I wasn't rude and I didn't want to appear like it.
"I hear you're a clone? Why are you here? Are you here to like, collect data or something? If that is the case, then the computer lab is down the hall, go ahead and collect what you want." She smirked as if that was the best insult she had ever heard. I've heard worse, not recently, but definitely worse than that.
Smiling at her, I fixed her with my green gaze, trying to resist the urge to shove her boobs back into her shirt. "Funny. I really haven't heard that one before, how original. Anyway, you never did answer my question what do you need?"
"I don't need anything, but I will have you know that this is my school. My daddy is principal, which means I have power here, so if you upset me, I can get you expelled before you can malfunction...again. This was it. I was seriously going to snap this girls neck. However, I needed to behave, otherwise I couldn't stay at this school, and I actually enjoyed being with other students my age, and meeting new people. This was a big deal for me and I wasn't going to let this chick ruin it .
"Listen here...miss. I don't know who you are but I don't think you know who I am either. I am a clone, but I am just the same as you and anyone else here. I can already tell you and I won't get along, which is fine with me, I don't want to associate with you anyhow. You're just trying to get a rise out of me and I know that you don't actually care about me or what I think either. So, if you would listen, I would like you to please go away so I may learn. Please, and thank you."
The other girl huffed and stalked away, being thoroughly bested by someone lower than her. I sighed and tried to listen to the teacher drone on, but I couldn't keep my attention on the teacher and eventually started writing in my notebook. After class, in a moment of pure fate, or so I thought, I bumped into another person on the way out. With the blondest hair I've probably ever seen on a human being and the bluest eyes to match. He was seriously the cutest guy I had ever seen, and also the only guy I had ever seen. After that encounter, we ended up walking to our last class together. He didn't seemingly care about what I was, and what my "kind" did. He was absolutely perfect, and all the way home to my cozy facility and jail cell, I thought about the boy that had stolen my heart the first moment I mumped into him on the classroom: Aiden.
