Kyrah was staring into space, with a smile plastered on her face. She hummed a melody, feeling contented and peaceful.
"Maybe, getting kidnapped wasn't such a bad thing after all," she thought.
On the royal throne, sat a man. He was clad in a black cloak, forked at the knees whose buttons reached till his chest. Black tights and gumboots with spiky stones lined at the sides completed his outfit. His head was adorned with a magnificent crown, which shimmered beautifully. But one tiny detail spoiled its perfect beauty. The center missed a jewel.
"Where are you my precious Naag Mani?" he thought with utmost desperation. His black eyes grew further dark with fury.
Taking off his crown, he stroked a finger at the spot where the jewel missed. "It won't be any long and I will find you. You are befit for a great serpent like me. I am the only one who is worthy of your great power. I am the greatest serpent of them all!" his eyes burned with madness.
"Sir Hiram?" the butler called meekly.
"Who dares to disturb me?" Hiram growled, shaken from his thoughts.
"Sir, we have searched everywhere for the Naag Mani. It is nowhere to be found," came the answer with a shaky voice.
"Not found? I never take no for an answer. It is hidden somewhere since many centuries. No, no no, it can't vanish..." he said talking to himself, rather than the servant in front of him.
"Double the search party. I need that gem. And when I do..."
A peal of maniac laughter erupted from his curled lips. "I have just the plan."
His horrific smile revealed his perfect teeth yet his lips were twisted with bitterness. His eyes displayed an eerie happiness clearly portraying his psychopathic behavior.
The servant scurried away, not daring to stay there any longer. He couldn't believe that the King's brother turned out to be a monster, literally. They were all monsters, yes, they were born as snake-shifters. But the venom hadn't entered their hearts. They were a peaceful lot, content to be ruled by the benevolent king and his sweet family. Never ever there were disputes or enmity of any sort, until now.
The butler was very loyal to the king and his family, having been taking care of the kingdom since 20 years. He loved the princess like his own daughter. He prayed for their safety and wished he could do something to stop Hiram's evil plans.
Miserably, he walked a distance to reach the Staff Room. He found a number of other servants, chefs and maids debating, thinking and voicing their opinions about the seriousness of the situation. All of their faces were glum, some of the women even cried.
"What are we going to do?" a woman asked in a quiet voice.
"We have to inform the King and Queen," a burly man who was presumably the head chef arose, addressing the staff who were huddled together.
"Whatever we do, we have to make sure that we don't give rise to any suspicions," the butler said wisely. "Let's pretend we are with him to know his evil plans and then work on a strategy against him side by side."
"Yes, we can at least do this much for the royal family," someone said.
Everyone nodded their heads, agreeing to the plan. Suddenly, footsteps were heard approaching. The talking ceased at once, breaths held within.
"You know what to do," Hiram was heard speaking. "Distract the king and queen. I don't need any interruptions."
"Yes master," a voice came out strained.

The king and queen reached their destination after three long days. They slumped forward, shifting back to their human forms. Exhaustion was clearly written on their delicate faces. They stood at the gate of the Sholak Stone House.
Smiling at each other, they entered inside, gaping at beautiful surrounding. Flowers of different colors and fragrance lined all corners. In the middle, lay a small well filled with honey to the brim; filling the air with a sweet aroma. Butterflies fluttered about, birds chirped and the whole atmosphere was heavenly. The view was mesmerizing.
The king looked at his queen fondly. He took her by surprise as he kissed her cheek and took her hand in his. She put her hand on his shoulder and they kneeled down together, beginning their prayer.

Meanwhile, Kyrah was bored. She sat cross-legged on the floor, twirling and untwirling her hair.
Zuber entered the living room and watched her from a distance. He smiled looking at her. The three days had gone well. He had learned many things about Kyrah and he thought they were "friends" now.
His smile quickly turned into a frown, remembering why he had kidnapped her in the first place. Pushing aside the negative memories, he decided to announce his arrival.
"Ahem," he said clearing his throat.
Kyrah looked up to find him eyeing her curiously.
"It's rude to stare Zuber," she said and smirked.
"You don't even know how to smirk, you are too innocent for that!" he replied as if talking to a small child.
"I am not a kid!"
"You are!"
"No!"
"Are"
"No!"
"No!"
"Are!"
"See? You agreed to it yourself," he smirked.
Kyrah was exasperated and muttered something incoherently under her breath. She folded her arms across her chest and looked away, mock-sulking.
"Aww! The baby is sulking. Don't cry baby, I will bring you some toys," he looked at her mischievously, wiggling his eyebrows.
No response.
"Little baby, I am talking to you," he said stretching his voice while waving his hand at her face.
She slapped his hand away clearly annoyed. He caught her hand in his swiftly, boring his eyes into her surprised ones.
"Try to laugh at yourself sometimes. I just joked. You are childlike, you know that yourself."
With that, he left in a huff. Bolting the door of his room. He remembered how he had Kyrah's hand in his. The first hand he had ever felt. Her skin was like a flower, soft and delicate. Then the realization hit him. He hoped Kyrah wouldn't take it in the wrong way. He hadn't done it deliberately.
Kyrah sat motionlessly. Her brain couldn't register the fact that a guy had held her hand. She had never been with one before. She felt angry, yet a part of her loved the feel. She felt protected and safe, just by his one touch. She felt that she could trust him. If he had bad intentions, he wouldn't even let her stay peacefully.
In these three days, she never had a complaint. He took care of everything. He didn't even let her wash the utensils, or do any work. This was her chance of living like a normal person. In the palace, no one let her do anything herself. She felt she could change that now.
"Tomorrow Mr. Zuber is going to see a new Kyrah," she said gleefully.
