"I'll have a number three and, hey what do you want?" Veronica leaned over Ray to get closer to the speaker of GoGo Burger.

"Annnnnd I'll have the um, the number four with a diet coke." Ray said and Veronica rolled her eyes.

As they munched on their food, Ray continued driving up and down the deserted streets. It was a very small town and most people worked during the day. Red and yellow leaves floated past the car as the trees changed colors for fall.

They took a turn and headed down a dead end, at the end of the supposably dead end Ray slowly drifted down a hidden dirt road. Soon they were surrounded by foliage and the duo strode by in silence until the end when it dumped them out onto a secluded beach. Ray parked and they hopped out.
A small beach shrouded in shadows produced by tall looming oak trees was tucked away, many people didn't know about it. Veronica and Ray had stumbled upon it one night when they were sneaking out of their houses when they were 10.
"Have you thought about going to Garrison's party? Please don't make me go alone you knoooow Lindsey would just love that." Veronica's curly hair blew in the breeze, the pair walked down the small sandy beach. Ray glanced at her boots which were covered in the dirt-sand mixture of the woodland beach. FLygan lake surrounded the small town, if was always busy in the summer but now that winter wasn't far away the town had started to drain it so it wouldn't be a hazard.

"I don't really have a choice do I?" Ray sighed and V squealed and hugged her.

"I'll be at your house at nine ok so be ready." Veronica checked her phone and suggested they start to head back.

Ray turned the key and entered the empty house, she turned all the lights on and started mentally preparing for the party. She was a nobody, she doubted anyone besides Veronica even knew her name. Her parents made sure she was never in any clubs or had any recognition for any achievements. She once had the opportunity to compete in the Oregon state spelling bee when she was in fifth grade but they pulled her out of the school and forced her to go to another district. It was unfair, only a few more months and once she graduated high school she was leaving. She didn't know where she was going to go but, she knew she was going to get as far away from her parents as she could. New York maybe or Rhode Island.

She took the stairs two at a time and went down the narrow carpeted hallway towards her room. She flicked the light switch n an a lamp laminated the small bedroom. Pale pink walls matched her pink bedspread and flower posters. She hated the color pink, but her mother told her pink was girly and that it looked nice.  She hated her parents, she never felt close to them. Like, there was some connection missing. She felt awful about it, but the connection just wasn't there and their controlling nature drove her crazy. She laid on her bed and while wrapped on in her thoughts she dozed off.

"Wake up!" A shrill voice drove through Ray's cloudy brain as a pillow was hummed at her.

"Come on! we'll be late for the party." Veronica cried out, Raylee scrambled to her feet and stumbled to her closet which was filled mostly with dresses that her mom bought her most had tags still on them and hoodies. Veronica swiped through the hangers and pulled a dress out Ray had outgrown. It was red and low cut. Ray bought it a year ago on clearance when she was out on a secret girls day with V. It had been small then but it was cheap and Ray had a little money left over from her secret job. She had since grown two inches and the dress barely covered her butt but V thought it was perfect.

Squeezing into it, Rays hair tumbled over shoulder she let Veronica pull her oversized makeup bag out and add a little something extra to her face. Her mother didn't allow her to wear makeup she had said that it brought to much unwanted attention to Ray.  When she was ready the hurried down the stairs and shut the door behind them. Racing to Ray's car they quickly drove the couple of blocks to Kyle's party.
