The wind howled as a rusty pickup truck made its way up the muddy road. Wet earth sputtered from the wheels when the truck took a sharp turn off the road and through tall wheat shafts. The rust bucket bumped and jumped over the rough terrain. The driver looked in his rear-view mirror and saw the Burlap sack bouncing and bumping against the metal bed of the truck, he smiled a toothless grin and pressed harder on the gas.
Coming to a stop in the middle of a clearing the door to the truck opened and two heavy black boots crunched to the ground. The heavy-set man rounded the vehicle and opened the bed of the truck and yanked the burlap sack out and pushed it onto the ground where it landed with a hard thud, a whimper escaped from the sack. The man kicked it hard and pulled out his cellphone, noting the time he crossed his arms and looked out towards the wheat field where a van was pulling up. The passenger side door opened and a tall, skinny man stepped out. Fixing the cuff on his suit he walked towards the hulking form and the burlap sack.
Glancing at the bag he nodded towards the tree line and walked past them. Throwing the sack over his shoulder the big man followed. Coming to the entrance to the dark woods the suited man pulled a flashlight from his deep blue jacket and continued walking. He stopped when he came to a small clearing, trees circled the recently cleared area. Leaves had been raked away to reveal the soft mushy dirt, a large flat rock sat on the opposite side of where the man stood. He waited silently for his muscle man to bring forth the traitor. When finally, he dropped the traitor onto the rock he pulled off the sack to reveal a bloodied old man.
"So, my men told me you know something about the theft that occurred oh, some eighteen years ago," The man cocked his head to the side and his eyes narrowed making the old man flinch.
"I..I don't know anything about that please, I follow the rules. I love your father, he's the one true Alpha. Please you have it all wrong." The Old man cried which earned him a hard slap from the large man.
"Enough Vincent, please let Mr. Newburg plead his case, I like seeing him squirm." The suited man took a step closer.
"Enough games, I know you've been in contact with Maggie. Vincent and Manny intercepted letters she wrote you reminding you of some promise you had made her. Do share with the class, what was the promise?" He pulled out a switchblade and inched closer to Mr. Newburg.
"She... she saved my life when we were little I told her I owed her one but when she betrayed your father I cut all ties from her she wanted help but I told her no please, Santiago you have to believe me." Blood leaked from the old man mouth.
"Ah see now we're getting somewhere," Santiago lunged and slashed the man's face leaving a long bloody line across his wrinkly face.
"That was for not coming to us with this information, but I know there's more to the story I know she told you where the girl is, tell me now and I might spare you." The old man held his cheek and cried.
"Tell me now!" Santiago pulled a picture from his jacket and held it up, "You have two minutes to tell me where she is or your daughter gets it."
"No! Please Julie had nothing to do with this. I.. She.. She's in Oregon. With Mary and Frank Gordon, please that's all I know, please just let me g- "The old man was cut off by Santiago plunging the blade into his neck spraying blood all over his suit. He gurgled and his eyes went wide before slumping to the ground.
"Clean this up, meet me back at the house in two hours. We're going to Oregon."
