The weekend had arrived. I woke up and decided to run some errands at the bank.
I tagged Simon to come with me on that Saturday.
I had planed on doing something after running my errands. I smiled as I thought of what I'll be doing earlier.
"What are your plans?"
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at Stan.
"Huh what?"
"You're smiling like a jealous girlfriend with a plot to destroy her nemesis,"
I laughed at his statement.
"So do share, what is it?" He asked.
"Nothing you need to worry about. Just know it's something good."
He looked at me and sighed.I pulled over at his apartment. We said our good byes and I drove home. I decided to pass by at Vel café. There was an old woman already closing down the café, I quickly came out of the car and took out a neatly wrapped box from the boot.
I rushed to the door as she was placing the closed sign.
"Excuse me," I shouted.
The old woman looked at me and stopped.
"I'm sorry but we closed," she said.
"I know ma'am, I was hoping to find your waitresses still here, I guess I'll have to drop by tomorrow." I said.
"Oh dear, and who is the lady you looking for?" She asked.
I didn't know If i should tell her, but she is the only one who can help me. She might even tell me the address."She goes by the name Melissa, may you please tell me where she lives so that I can go there instead,"
She looked at me for a while, and I ended up looking at myself wondering what caught her eye and I saw the box I was still holding with both arms."Oh and how do you know Melissa, I never knew she was friends with a Kroft," she said. So she knew who I was.
I didn't know how to answer that. I have never had a proper conversation with her, just eye contact and her serving me.
"She has served me a few times, that's how I know her," I said honestly."Please do come in,"
She offered and led the way.
We sat on a close by table.
"Melissa stays with me, I'm her grandma. She's not around, she left a few hours before we closed. She had to meet up with someone," she said.
Someone? Who can that be, a guy? Is that someone a guy? Not that it mattered but thinking about her being admired by someone, that hurt, somehow."Then I must be going," I battled whether I should leave the box or not.
"Thank you ma'am for your time. Please give her this for me," I said and gave her the box. I was taking my chance.
"Please, call me Vel. You leaving already? How about some coffee." She asked.
"Not today Vel, next time. Thank you again,"I left the café and decided to go to the bar and have a few beers. I should have gotten to her earlier, taken her to a few dates, got to know her, made my move. Beyond those fragile eyes I believe lays a beautiful soul. I sighed as I drank down my third bottle. Feeling tipsy, I decided to head home. I hope when she gets the box it will be a step forward to something...although I don't know what that is.
I arrived home just after dawn. I was tired and needed to rest and just needed to shower and heard straight to bed.
I opened the door and there seemed to be someone in the house other than my dad, it sounded like a woman's voice.
I followed the voices and they led me to the living room. I couldn't believe my eyes."Son, you home? I want you to meet someone. This is Mellisa, and I'm sure Melissa you know my son Simon,"
I stood there with my mouth wide open.
What is going on? Am I dreaming? How is Melissa here...how?
I stood there starring at her. She wasn't wearing her work uniform, she looked good. Her hair was not tied into a pony tail, it was let loose."Hey Simon," she said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
She looked at me and smiled, and when I didn't reply she looked the other away."Simon, it's rude to stare, greet the young lady,"
"Hey Melissa,"
I greeted back as I took a sit down across her.
Still lost of words.
I heard my father clearing his throat, atleast that broke the silence.
"Melissa and I met when my chauffeur nearly crushed her. I was from the doctor that day and she was going to the pharmacy. We have been friends ever since," He giggled after saying his last statement. Was it fate or destiny? Either way, my father seemed to be happy on having bumped on Melissa.
"Oh that reminds me, let me go fetch the picture album. There are lovely pictures I want to show her," my father stood up and left, leaving me with Melissa.
"How was your day?" Unexpectedly she started the conversation.
"I must say, it ended pretty well. Want something to drink?"
I said and didn't wait for her to reply and went to fill up two glasses with wine."Is the wine okay, I mean I don't want it to trigger your health," I asked, and was about to punch myself after that.
"Excuse me?" She asked, with a perplexed look on her face.
Dammit!!
"My father said something about meeting while you were going to the pharmacy so, uhmm, the wine
is it okay for your health,"She did not say anything. I wonder what she was thinking, probably how much of an idiot I am.
"My health is perfectly fine Simon," she responded with a very serious face. She was looking at me the whole time until she finally spoke.
"I probably should leave,"
She stood up and headed to the door."Stop," I said, rushing to the door and realised I held her wrist. I let it go, and said,
"It's getting dark, I'll drive you home,"
"No, I know my way..."
"I'm not taking a no for an answer it's not safe for a young lady like you to be going alone at this time, I'll drive you." I said interrupting her last statement. She nodded. I fetched my keys and led her to my car in the parking lot.
"Please drop me off at the Vel café. I..live there," she said hesitating to say.
"Okay, you related to the owner?" I asked, as if I didn't know.
"You could say that," she said, with less confidence.I drove her home in silence. We arrived at the café and she got out of the car.
"Thanks for the ride, good night," she said.
"Good night Melissa,"I drove back home. I thought of her reaction when she gets the box. I hope she accepts it, that will be a huge step forward to getting to know Melissa.
My father put on a smile today that he buried years ago. She somehow brings out the best in him. That was a good thing they get along. It's about time I involve a lady in our lives.
Happy new year wattpaders.
