I look out of the window and stare at the chaos in front of me. The whole city is engulfed into darkness and cries, blood and gunshots. And here I am, all alone.
They told me not to go near the window, but here I stand, staring at my fighting parents in the sky. My parents, they are city's most famous and beloved heroes. Diamond, is my mother. She is powerful, literally throwing rows of hard diamonds at the enemy, while flying like a hawk. While Asteroid, is my dad. He flies like a bird in the sky, forming balls of burning laser in his hands and eyes, rotting enemy to the ashes.
Even my sister has some powers. Everyone in my abnormal family has some. But me. I am powerless. White bird among black crows. Or that's how they think. My sister, Cassandra, who is six years older than me, us a hero helping people with her magic powers. She is like Cupid, flying with her tiny wings and shooting endless amount of arrows, never missing the target. And her name is fitting her, Cupid.
"Lisa?" Cassie whispers my name and I look at her, startled. "Why are you here?" She asks me in gentle, yet firm voice. I look at her, unable to form any kind of word. She smiles at me, approaching me and taking sit next to me.
"Why are you?" I return the question after being able to talk again. The city needs her more than I do. "You should be out there, fighting and defending people, not baby-sitting me." I say rather angrily and look directly into her ocean blue eyes.
"Mom sent me here for you." She shrugs her shoulder and looks out of the window, her eyes studying the city. I can feel the urge inside of her to go out and fight. I can practically see the determination in her eyes to help people.
"Cassie?" Her attention switches to me and I am engulfed into strange, burning sensation, which I push back and ignore. "How is it?" She looks at me, surprised and confused. "How is it to be hero? To risk you life and save others?"
"Lisa..." She whispers my name and I can see faint smile on her red lips. "It feels amazing." She says in a low voice and her smile gets bigger. "The feeling I get every time I see someone's grateful eyes, makes me able to fly around the world..." She says and looks directly in my eyes. "It feels amazing. And... I don't do it because of fame or responsibilities. I do it, because I love helping people. I love seeing them happy." She finishes with large smile plastered on her face, her blue eyes glittering with joy and pure happiness written all around her face.
"One day, I want to be like you." I say in a low voice and give her one of the sweetest smile I can master. "I want to help other people as well." I say in cherry tone and give her toothy smile.
Her face morphs into sad one, her eyes losing the light it held a minute ago. Her smile becomes fake and she tries to cover the awkward situation.
"Lisa..." She says in a low voice and looks at me with large eyes. "It's your choice." She says in high voice and coughs. "You should do whatever you want, not because people are expecting this from you, but because you want to." She says with reassuring smile. I nod, not showing hurt from her words.
"You think I am powerless?" I ask in low voice, wanting to show her what I have learned. She bites her lower lip and looks away from me. "But... Cassie... I do have powers."
"Yeah, of course." She smiles at me. "And they will show themselves soon." She gives me another fake smile and doesn't let me finish the fact that they have already come. I open my mouth to tell her that I am ready when her phone starts vibrating in her hands. "Sorry, it's mom, I have to take it." She answers the phone and her smile completely wipes away from her face. "What?... How?... Okay... I will come soon." She hangs up and looks at me with sweet smile.
"What happened?" I ask her as she starts changing her clothes. She looks at me and starts tying up her long chestnut brown hair into high pony-tail. She wears her pink spandex and shirt with long dark pink cape behind her and purplish mask over her delicate face.
"Mom told me they needed back-up." She tells me in monotone voice. "I need to go, sorry sis." She plants a soft kiss on my forehead and flies through the window, mixing with dust and clouds.
She starts fighting with Basilisk, the enemy, who caused all these destructions. Their fight is intense and frightful. Lasers and arrows are going in all directions, none of them hitting the target. Mom and dad are nearby, fighting with Basilisk's minions and trying to reach their daughter to help her. But they are late.
Basilisk tells her something, something that makes her shout and go rampage. And then he shoots. But he doesn't shoot at her, but at my parents, who will definitely die from the impact of the laser. Cassie starts flying at their direction, jumping in front of them and engulfing the murderous laser with her fragile body. The red line pierces through her chest and disappeared. I gasp and lean forward, tears streaming down my face, my whole body trembling and shaking from fear. And then... She starts falling down to her certain death.
"NO!" I yell as her body collides with the ground and makes a large hole in the center of the city, killing her immediately.
